What is foundation with SPF?

Initially, foundation is a cosmetic makeup product that allows you to even out your complexion and disguise visible imperfections in the skin. The presence of SPF (Sun Protection Factor) in it also adds a sun protection function, which in turn helps prevent premature skin aging, the formation of wrinkles and even malignant formations.

In descriptions of foundations there are two terms: cream and foundation. It is worth noting that there is no functional difference between them. Just the name of the product in English - foundation - literally translates as foundation. And the level of protection of the foundation from UV rays does not depend in any way on the applicable name.

Is the protection of such a remedy effective?

The level of protection effectiveness of a foundation with SPF is influenced by several factors:

Correct application. In fact, the sun protection function of the product lasts for 2-3 hours, after which the composition disintegrates. You should take this interval into account and renew the product on your face after it has expired. And the effect of the filters begins only after 20–30 minutes of application.
Availability of additional filters. SPF only blocks UVB rays (they cause darkening of the skin tone by stimulating the production of melanin, can lead to sunburn, and are refracted in the shadows and under clothing). To neutralize the effect of more dangerous UVA rays (this type penetrates deeply into the skin, despite all obstacles, provoking the formation of free radicals, disruption of cellular structure, photoaging and other harmful processes), it is necessary to have PPD filters in the cosmetic product (they can be identified by the broad marks spectrum, PPD, PA, letter A in a circle).
SPF index selection. It is a mistaken belief that the higher the SPF, the longer you can stay in the sun. The difference between the values for example: SPF 50 blocks 98% of radiation, and SPF 100 blocks 99%. The value of the factor should be selected taking into account the skin phototype - the lighter it is, the higher the number. That is, you don’t need to hope that a high SPF cream will work all day.

The most effective protection is provided by products with an SPF/PPD ratio of 3 or less. Sometimes it is indicated on the packaging with the symbol “PA+, ++, +++”.

I am a known sun protection fanatic on a regular basis.
I give preference to products with the highest factor. I have only one skin, there is more than enough pigmentation on it, and the difference of a few percent of protection between SPF30 and SPF50 seems fundamental to me. In order not only to protect yourself from the sun, but also to even out your complexion, you can use products with both SPF and pigments in the composition. Today we are testing seven such “hybrids” in action.

Let me remind you of my initial data: combination skin, prone to oily skin, with acne, pigmentation, porous, sensitive.

It does not give a noticeable color - it is a light, light tint and smoothes the skin, mattifies it a little. For the beach, in my opinion, it is enough, but for the city I want something lighter and more pigmented.

Another thing to keep in mind is that it's a little sticky, so you'll either need to wait before applying makeup or put some effort into blending it out. This product also needs to be washed off very well. It is practically waterproof - I actively swam with it, and the cream remained on my face and was felt under my fingers. And wow, they have an almost identical composition, 98%. Moreover, they even have identical jars, one is gray, the other is white, two funny geese. Both brands, let me remind you, belong to the L'Oreal concern, so such mimicry is understandable (I had previously seen a similar identity in MAC and Smashbox eyelid bases). But it still surprises me -).

Kiehl's is a strong average product, there are no complaints about it - the lightest texture, light shade and minimal tone leveling. It also gives a little shine to the skin, but it’s tolerable. (In general, it seems to me that Kiehl's and Skinceuticals are tinted more to hide the whitishness of titanium dioxide).”

Which cream is better? None of the products captivated me so much that I gave up foundation completely in their favor. Still, they provide a light or very light level of camouflage.

However, for the city and for every day I have three favorites - Diego dalla Palma the Cle de Peau sunscreen line and Darphin . Because, as I realized during the test, I prefer sun protection in the form of creams; they provide more additional hydration and stay on my skin better throughout the day. With such people you can sometimes forget about the tone. Darphin is the most pleasant option for me among liquid products.

My favorite remains Ultraceuticals , but for trips to the sea and beach (or mountains). For the city, its texture is quite dense - here I would choose its colleague Ultra UV Protective Daily Moisturizer.

Very thin Skinceuticals and Kiehl’s are just not my product format, I’m still for creamy textures.
