I would like to share with you my personal experience of using Bio-Oil “PurCellin Oil” cosmetic oil. As stated on the label, this miracle oil alone can cope with problems such as scars, scars, stretch marks, post-acne marks, even out complexion and even remove fine wrinkles - and all this in one bottle!
I purchased this oil six months ago, tried it on different problem areas and now I can say with confidence when it is worth using Bio-Oil oils, and in which situations it simply does not work! Let's consider all the "cons" and "pros" of this product.
Compound
Bio-Oil is based on ordinary unrefined oils (chamomile, lavender, calendula) and supplemented with vitamins A and E. The exclusivity of this product lies not in its composition, but in the formula, which ensures complete absorption of all ingredients by the layers of the epidermis. However, along with plant components, Bio-Oil contains a mineral product – Paraffinum Liquidum, which is in no way classified as natural.
Ingredient | Effect on the body |
Chamomile oil | Renews the skin, improves microcirculation and promotes rejuvenation. |
Calendula oil | Has a wound-healing, anti-burn effect. |
Lavender oil | Cleanses the skin of toxins. Promotes cell regeneration. Has an antiseptic, anti-inflammatory, healing effect. |
Rosemary oil | Makes pigment spots, scars, scars less noticeable. |
Vitamin A | Gives skin elasticity, restoring it and healing wounds. |
Vitamin E | It has an antioxidant effect, restores the skin after thermal damage, for example, after sunburn. |
Bisabol (chamomile extract) | Destroys bacteria. Soothes the epidermis. |
Purcellin OilTM | Softens the dense texture of oils. As a result, the product penetrates deeper into the skin layers, is well absorbed, without leaving a greasy film. |
Bio-Oil oil for stretch marks
With sudden weight gain or pregnancy, the skin begins to stretch, or if there is not enough elasticity in it, it tears and white scars form on the skin. There are 2 ways to deal with stretch marks:
Method 1: preventing stretch marks and applying creams to improve skin elasticity
2nd method: immediately after the appearance of stretch marks - cream for treating and restoring the skin.
I did not use Bio-oil as a preventive measure, but as a cosmetologist I can warn you that using any formulations with vitamin A for pregnant women is unsafe. And retinol is part of Bio Oil. Therefore, it is better to consult your doctor.
I used it for 6 months on existing stretch marks on my hips and stomach – I didn’t notice any results in color or structure.

Advantages and disadvantages of using the product
The disadvantage of the cosmetic product is its high cost. For visible results, a long course of use is required (at least 3 months), which can be expensive from the point of view of the family budget. If you take breaks, the desired effect will not be achieved. Another disadvantage, judging by the reviews, is the inconvenient bottle with a dispenser: when used, liquid flows down the bottle, dirtying it. However, this drug still has more advantages:
- due to its liquid consistency, it penetrates deep into the skin;
- makes the skin softer, silkier, has a general healing effect;
- can be used during pregnancy and lactation;
- restores the tone of aging, oily, problematic skin;
- reduces scars, fine wrinkles, post-acne;
- restores structure, promotes the synthesis of new cells;
- moisturizes rough and dry areas of the epithelium;
- removes peeling;
- relieves inflammation and irritation;
- hypoallergenic;
- with regular use, evens out the color of the epidermis;
- Available in recyclable packaging.
Bio-Oil oil for fine wrinkles
The bulk of the oil's ingredients (Vitamin A, E) are designed to stimulate the production of new collagen. Collagen is a protein that makes up 80% of our skin and the formation of new collagen leads to regeneration and firmness of our skin. Therefore, Bio oil can also be used for fine wrinkles.
I used this oil on my neck and décolleté for 2 months. The skin on the neck has become more hydrated and smooth. The fine mesh of wrinkles and creases in the skin has disappeared. In general, I'm happy with the result! The only thing left, of course, are 3 deep expression wrinkles at the neck flexion level.
Conclusion: Bio oil is effective only for small wrinkles, but does not cope with deep facial wrinkles. Also, I still don’t recommend using it under the eyes for crow’s feet. Since the presence of mineral oil in the composition is very confusing.
Indications for use
Since the beginning of production, Bio-Oil has been positioned as a drug to combat stretch marks. Later, the range of activities expanded significantly. Currently, it can be used to care for any type of skin. The cosmetic product is applicable for burns, scars, wrinkles, irritation, inflammation. However, you still don’t need to overdo it so as not to cause an allergic reaction.
Bio-Oil for stretch marks
There is no positive answer to whether bio-oil helps with stretch marks. Daily use of a natural product will make your skin fresh, smooth, and give it firmness and elasticity. Small stretch marks will become almost invisible. However, if you have had stretch marks for a long time, then it is unlikely that you will be able to completely get rid of this cosmetic defect using this remedy.
For wrinkles
The desire to prolong youth is characteristic of any woman. In the fight against wrinkles, dehydration and aging of the skin, representatives of the fair sex use any drugs. Some choose proven grandmother's recipes, others choose the latest innovations in the cosmetic industry, and some try to look for combined products. The latter includes the Bio-Oil suspension, which successfully smoothes out wrinkles, including facial wrinkles.
Bio-Oil for scars
Eco-oil is good for treating fresh and minor tissue damage. Although the manufacturer claims that Bio-Oil reduces the visibility of scars, no cosmetic product can cope with deep scars (for example, after surgical sutures). There is only one way out - laser polishing. Bio-Oil is able to even out the tone, but is not able to completely resolve the scar.
Use for pigmentation and acne
Uneven pigmentation causes no less problems for women than stretch marks. The cause of this defect is the irregular production of melanin, which occurs due to external influences. The use of low-quality bleaching products or prolonged exposure to the sun will change skin color. Another reason may be hormonal imbalance, which is typical during pregnancy. Reviews of Bio-Oil oil confirm its effectiveness in combating this deficiency. Bio-Oil can also be used for acne, after consulting a dermatologist.

Description: Oil
formula
Bio- Oil is an oil-based suspension with the addition of plant extracts and vitamins. It contains the unique ingredient PurCellin Oil™, which affects the consistency of the formula, making it light and quickly absorbed without leaving a greasy film.
All beneficial vitamins and plant extracts contained in the oil are quickly and easily absorbed into the skin.
Bio-Oil oil has been safety assessed in accordance with the Requirements of the European Parliament and the Cosmetic Products Council. The toxicology data sheet, chemical composition, impurity levels, and total amount of each ingredient used in the oil have been evaluated and found to be safe for use (including use during pregnancy) when used daily.
Bio-Oil is the world's leading product for the treatment of scars and stretch marks.
Scarring
Scars are an integral part of the wound healing process, which results in the production of excess collagen. Scars go through many stages of change during the healing process, but they are permanent. Bio-Oil is formulated to reduce the appearance of scars, but it will never completely eliminate them.
Striae (stretch marks) In case of sudden weight gain, the skin sharply stretches and tears, forming scars after healing. These scars on the surface of the skin are striae.
The likelihood of developing stretch marks depends on your skin type, age, race, diet, and skin hydration level. Pregnant women, bodybuilders, teenagers during a period of rapid growth, or people who have suddenly gained weight are most prone to the appearance of stretch marks.
Striae are permanent, and although Bio-Oil is specially formulated to reduce their visibility, it will never completely eliminate them.
Uneven skin color
The main reason for uneven skin color is the body's irregular production of melanin. This can occur either as a result of external influences such as excessive exposure to sunlight or the use of poor quality skin whitening creams, or internal causes such as changes in hormonal levels during pregnancy, menopause or use of hormonal contraceptives. Bio-Oil helps even out uneven skin tone.
Skin with the first signs of aging
Aged skin is skin that has changed due to the aging process, which occurs due to a decrease in the production of collagen and elastin, which maintain skin elasticity. Bio-Oil contains many ingredients that help the skin to be flexible by softening, moisturizing and making it more flexible, thereby reducing the formation of new wrinkles and sagging skin. Bio-Oil also hydrates the skin, improving its texture, evening out tone and reducing the appearance of wrinkles.
Dehydrated skin
The surface of the skin has an invisible fatty film that protects the skin from moisture loss. In very dry climates, this fatty film may be unable to retain moisture and excess moisture will evaporate from the surface. Daily washing and showering enhance this effect, the fat layer is washed away and a feeling of tightness appears on the skin. Bio-Oil oil creates an additional protective film on the skin, helps retain moisture and restore skin barrier functions.

Analogs
The multifunctional product Bio-Oil is positioned by the manufacturer as a drug that has no analogues in the fight against scars and stretch marks. However, judging by the reviews, you can still buy a cheaper remedy for stretch marks or make it yourself at home, for example, a suspension with mummy (dissolve it in water and mix with a nourishing cream). Among the main substitutes are:
- Re-Gen oil. The composition, appearance of the packaging, smell and consistency are very similar to the oil in question. However the price is much cheaper.
- Revitol. A product based on powerful natural ingredients.
- Contractubex. An analogue of domestically produced cosmetic oil.
- Mama Mio. The components of the cream can reduce the visibility of stretch marks by up to 70%.
- Body Perfector. A product created on the basis of glacial water and herbs.
Bio-Oil oil for pigmentation and post-acne
My area of application was pigmentation on the shoulders and décolleté, resulting from excessive tanning. For 2 months, the only effect was tightened and moisturized, positively radiant skin! But the age spots did not go away.
But after 5 months of persistent use, the scattering of moles and age spots really became smaller – even almost invisible!
I liked this effect. Considering that this is just an oil with plant extracts, and not an aggressive whitening cream with a “chemical” composition.
Conclusion: if you are a fan of natural cosmetics, want to get rid of pigmentation in a gentle way and are willing to wait 4-5 months, then Bio oil is your assistant.
Final review of Bio-Oil oil:
- Well moisturizes the skin and nourishes due to its plant composition.
- Well softens rough skin on the elbows and feet.
- Bio Oil smooths out fine wrinkles well, but not expression lines.
- Lightens small and not deep scars.
- Not effective against stretch marks. There are more effective products.
- Perfectly evens out skin tone with pigmentation. But the period of application is quite long - 5 months.

Bio-Oil price
The manufacturer of Bio Oil is the South African company UNION SWISS ZA. The suspension is available in bottles with a dosage of 60 ml or 125 ml. The cost of the cosmetic product is high compared to similar products. The approximate price for these products in the Moscow region is given in the table below.
Oil name | Volume, ml | Price, rub |
from stretch marks | 60 | 350 |
cosmetic | 60 | 450 |
cosmetic | 125 | 570 |
Bio-Oil cosmetic for scars, stretch marks, uneven tone | 60 | 500 |
Bio-Oil for scars
The oil works very well on scars in 2 cases:
- For the treatment of shallow scars.
- For the treatment of fresh scars.
My scar after the burn was almost completely gone, the dark brown skin became the same color as the rest of my skin. And it became almost unnoticeable. I used it for 3 months after showering.
What this oil can't handle:
With deep scars - for example those left after stitches. And with very old scars. But treating such cases is very difficult with ointments and creams - the only effective way is laser resurfacing.
At the same time, the manufacturer himself states that: “Bio Oil is designed to reduce the appearance of scars, but it can never completely eliminate them.”
Conclusion: Bio Oil brightens well, makes seams less red and evens out skin tone with shallow scars. But it does not resolve deep scars.
Bio-Oil oil and skin defects
Admit that regarding the elimination of wrinkles, scars and stretch marks, and the restoration of beautiful skin color, you doubted that this was even possible. But the creators of Bio-oil oil took aim at these “immortal” skin defects by coming up with an original recipe. It is a success to this day, and, despite its high cost, is readily sold out.
In 2002, the oil went on sale for the first time. And it broke sales records in 17 countries. The result is 194 awards and victory in the flattering nominations “Best anti-cellulite product”, “Best multifunctional restorative product”, etc. By the way, the last nomination was received in 2013, i.e. recently.
