What is facial skin detox – how to carry out the procedure at home

Facial skin detox is a modern cosmetic procedure. During its implementation, the cosmetologist acts on tissues, sebaceous and sweat glands, cleanses the epidermis of dead cells and toxins. All this contributes to rejuvenation, healing and renewal of the skin. Detox therapy is resorted to in the presence of swelling and sagging skin, dark circles under the eyes, wrinkles (both superficial and deep). The detox process is complex and before carrying out it, you should visit a cosmetologist. During the consultation, he will determine your skin type, how contaminated it is with toxins, and based on the data obtained, he will determine the appropriate treatment method. For one person, an algae mask is enough, for another, injections and hardware effects will need to be used in tandem.

What is skin detoxification

Living in modern conditions, that is, an unfavorable ecological environment, with poor diet and daily routine, frequent stressful situations, and psychological overwork contribute to the appearance of premature signs of aging. The latter are manifested, first of all, by early aging of the facial skin, loss of shine, silkiness and increased hair loss.

In addition, as age increases, the body’s metabolism slows down, the processes of cell destruction predominate over their restoration, and the processes of blood microcirculation and lymph flow in tissues (including facial skin) slow down. As a result, toxins, toxic products of metabolism and the external environment accumulate throughout the body, the internal resources of the body are reduced, the immune system is weakened, resistance to bacterial and viral infections decreases, body weight increases, cellulite and sagging skin develop, dark circles under the eyes and swelling of the face.

The function of organs (skin, lungs, liver, kidneys) that perform detoxification, that is, removing harmful substances from the body, gradually decreases. All this leads to a slowdown in the renewal of all cells and, in particular, skin cells. A significant number of cells of the stratum corneum accumulate on its surface, which form a “film” that is invisible to the eye, but disrupts the normal processes of tissue functioning.

In these cases, to improve the condition of the entire body, including the function of the skin and, accordingly, its appearance, care programs that include not only general detoxification of the body (removing toxins and reducing their entry into the body), but also detox skin cleansing.

Thus, facial skin detox is a program for its renewal and healing by removing toxins and harmful cellular waste products naturally (through sweat and sebaceous glands), as well as by removing horn cells from the surface layers, which is one of the significant elements of the detoxification program. In other words, it is a program for allowing tissues to develop and function in healthy, natural ways.

Alena, 26 years old: “I regularly detox my skin (not only the face, but also the body) once a week. But I do it at home. Before the procedure, I wash thoroughly, cleanse the skin, then steam it in the steam room (we have our own bathhouse). I rub it well with sea salt and go back to the steam room. Then I wash everything off and rub myself with a mixture of clay and honey. I sit with this mask for 20 minutes and wash myself. After all this, my skin becomes soft and velvety - just perfect!”

Choice of drug

When prescribing injection techniques, you should first of all pay attention to the composition of the drug, the components of which can provide the skin with so-called detox therapy. These include sodium succinate, or succinic acid salt. It is an intracellular metabolite, a product of the Krebs cycle.

Sodium succinate provides essential functions:

  • increasing microcirculation in organs and tissues,
  • restoration of acid-base balance,
  • increasing cell resistance to hypoxia,
  • normalization of the level of pro-inflammatory mediators – histamine and serotonin,
  • prevention of inflammatory acidosis,
  • stimulation of energy production (ATP) in order to compensate for the cell’s energy resources.

The capabilities of sodium succinate allow skin cells to reduce the impact of external aggressive factors, providing them with antioxidant protection. Also, the salt of succinic acid works on the extracellular space, restoration and normalization of microcirculation, which helps reduce tissue hypoxia, and also increases lymphotropy and has a detoxifying effect.

Indications and contraindications for facial skin detox

Indications for the use of detox therapy are:

  1. Dull complexion and pigmentation disorders.
  2. Allergic reactions and inflammatory skin rashes, acne.
  3. Uneven skin tone.
  4. Increased porosity and roughness of the skin.
  5. Reduced turgor, sagging and the presence of premature superficial fine wrinkles.
  6. Stressed skin - the presence of dark and pale spots, “marbling”.
  7. The skin of a “smoker” is dry, dehydrated, and clearly yellow.
  8. Excessive oiliness of hair on the head.
  9. Hair stiffness and difficulty in styling.
  10. Loss of hair shine, dryness and fragility, feeling of artificiality at the ends of the hair.

Contraindications for detox therapy:

  1. Respiratory viral diseases.
  2. Inflammatory processes on the skin of the face and body, exacerbation of dermatoses.
  3. Intolerance and allergic reactions in the past to components of detox therapy products.
  4. Pregnancy and breastfeeding.
  5. Oncological pathology.

Larisa, 31 years old: “I do a facial skin detox once a week. I steam it well first or just wash it with hot water when I don’t have time. Then I mix salt and washing gel, take a soft brush and treat the problem areas with this product. This is how you make an improvised salt scrub. The next step is a cucumber mask. I keep it on my face for 20 minutes. After all the procedures, the skin of the face looks so fresh and beautiful, just a sight for sore eyes. I try not to neglect detox in order to preserve beauty and youth longer.”

Aftercare rules

After detoxification, no negative changes in appearance occur. Manifestations of allergies and exacerbation of herpes are possible. It is recommended to take care of eliminating these factors in advance. Immediately after the session, slight redness may appear on the surface. The phenomena disappear within a few hours.

Caring for the epidermis after the procedure is not difficult. Regular surface cleaning is mandatory. It is recommended to avoid products with aggressive composition (acids, alcohol, solid inclusions). Avoid intense effects on tissue. The epidermis must be moisturized.

It is recommended to avoid active sun exposure and use sun protection products. It is advisable to exclude the influence of negative factors that negatively affect the condition of the skin.

To consolidate your achievements, you need to eat right, stay hydrated, and lead an active lifestyle. Exercising vigorous exercise, periodically visiting the sauna, and regularly using deep cleansing products in your home care regimen will help maintain the results of the intensive detox procedure for a long time.

Detoxifying the face and scalp

Facial skin detox

These detox programs are very diverse. They can be performed in beauty salons and at home. It is recommended to use detox during periods of the year with low solar activity. The message behind the different detoxification programs is the same. These procedures are recommended to be carried out at least 2 times a year. For facial skin, their principle is:

  • refusal to use makeup at least 2 times a week;
  • removing cosmetics and cleansing facial skin through gommage;
  • applying masks based on brown algae (fucus vesiculosa, kelp), which have a deep effect and contain salts of alginic acid, as well as vitamins “A” and “C” and other active components. For more severe facial skin conditions, enzyme-based peels, such as papaya enzymes, are used instead;
  • It is mandatory for facial skin detox to apply ampoule serums or other peptide concentrates, but those that do not contain preservatives;
  • the use of cosmetic preparations in the form of creams or gels containing encapsulated oxygen, which penetrates deep enough into the tissues, is released into them and stimulates the processes of cellular regeneration;
  • using (usually) facial massage as the final stage of detox.

Depending on the condition of the skin and your own feelings, you can carry out detox yourself at home or seek advice or procedures from a cosmetologist or dermatologist.

Vaporization of the face to cleanse the skin

You can use traditional detox recipes yourself to help keep your facial skin in good condition at a minimum cost. For example, one of the fairly popular detox methods is to remove toxins using steam baths with essential oils. To do this, you need to pour hot water into a basin, add a few drops (3-5) of sage, lavender, tea tree or cypress oil to it and, placing your face over the basin, cover with a towel. The exposure duration is up to 5-7 minutes.

Another example is a detox compress with magnesium (1 tablespoon per 1 liter of hot water) and a few drops of orange oil. A large napkin or towel must be moistened in this solution and applied to the face for a few seconds for 5 minutes.

Deep facial detox can be done using cosmetic clay. Black clay is considered the best. To do this, mineral clay powder is mixed with warm water and a few drops of rosemary oil. The mixture is applied to the face for 15 minutes. You can also use a mixture of apple cider vinegar (1 part) with blue clay (3 parts).

In addition, a honey facial massage, a visit to the sauna or Russian bath have a good detox effect.

Scalp detox

It is not only an effective cleaning product, but also high-quality hair care. Compared to cleansing the facial skin, detox is performed slightly differently:

  • a cosmetic product with proteins is applied along the entire length of the hair;
  • the hair is separated into thin strands, and the scalp is treated with a cocktail containing a vitamin complex; it is rubbed in with massaging movements for 3-5 minutes;
  • Additionally, a nourishing extract is applied with a simultaneous massage of the head with the fingertips, after which the head is covered with a dry towel for 15-20 minutes;
  • wash your hair thoroughly with shampoo, followed by applying conditioner for 2-3 minutes and also removing it with warm water.

Some examples of detox recipes for the scalp at home:

  • Detox mask made from a mixture of aloe juice and bentonite clay. Prepare a homogeneous mixture in the form of a paste, consisting of ½ cup of fresh aloe juice and ½ cup of bentonite clay with the addition of apple cider vinegar (4 tablespoons). The paste is applied to the scalp and along the length of the hair, covered with a bathing cap and left for 30 minutes, after which it is washed off with apple cider vinegar, and then (after 2-3 minutes) with regular hair shampoo. It is recommended to use a detox mask once a week. If desired, it can be used more often, but without rinsing with vinegar.
  • Soda detox mask. Pour ½ cup of baking soda into three cups of hot water, stir and cool slightly. With this solution, you need to thoroughly rinse already moistened hair from roots to ends, massage your head for several minutes, and then rinse thoroughly. Detox with soda solution is recommended once every two weeks, and for oily hair - every week.
  • Oil detox mask with cinnamon. You need to mix cinnamon (1/2 teaspoon) with baking soda (1 teaspoon) and two tablespoons of olive oil. Apply to hair along the entire length, starting from the roots, and rub into the scalp with massaging movements. The mask is applied for 20 minutes, after which it must be washed off with warm water. It is recommended to use a detox mask at home once a week.

In addition, you can use sea salt shampoo in a 2:1 ratio, honey shampoo (1 tablespoon of honey, a few drops of essential oil in 3 tablespoons of filtered water), cucumber-lemon shampoo, etc. These are also effective remedies for detox therapy.

The ultimate goal of using detox for facial skin and hair:

  • improvement of blood microcirculation and lymph outflow in the skin;
  • improving the delivery of oxygen and nutrients to them;
  • stimulation of metabolism and activation of regenerative processes;
  • removal of excess liquid and waste;
  • stimulation of sweat gland function;
  • normalization of the function of the sebaceous glands and stimulation of hair growth;
  • activation of the processes of synthesis of collagen and elastin fibers;
  • reducing porosity and increasing skin tone.

It is desirable that all products used are from the same line and must be marked “Detox”. Some preparations for detox therapy for the scalp contain sea salt, which provides quite effective peeling and stimulation of the function of hair follicles.

The technique is not a one-time cosmetic procedure, but consists of several sessions that are carried out by a cosmetologist or at home 1-3 times a week for one month. The duration of detox therapy depends on the condition of the skin, the degree of intoxication (slagging), age and individual characteristics.

Margarita, 45 years old: “I use Belkosmex cream as a detox for facial skin. It's quite good and the price is reasonable. Before applying, I always wash my face with warm water, and three times a week I prepare a homemade scrub from honey and coffee. I want to undergo detox therapy in a salon with a professional cosmetologist. A friend was there and the doctor prescribed several procedures for her using masks. She was very pleased with the result. Wrinkles have become almost invisible.”

Preparatory stage

To obtain a brighter, faster effect, it is recommended to first prepare the skin for a comprehensive detox effect. To do this, adhere to a healthy lifestyle for at least a week: giving up bad habits, maintaining a sleep schedule, eating right. Cosmetics with a low concentration of acids are introduced into everyday care to soften and exfoliate the stratum corneum. It is recommended to give up medications and strictly adhere to the drinking regime.

Attention! Carrying out activities to detoxify the body will be an excellent basis for subsequent implementation of skin cleansing programs.

Six Week Detox Regimen

An example of one such cleansing and healing program is a 6-week facial skin detox with “ARTISTRY” cosmetics. The program is intended to be carried out 1-2 times a year. Its advantages are:

  1. Carrying out a regular 6-week special detox treatment that promotes more intense cellular renewal of the facial skin, the process of which lasts on average 30-42 days.
  2. The possibility of using only two additional care products makes it easy to integrate this detox program into your daily routine facial care. The two products are Aristry Intensive Skincare Revitalizing Peel, which is a resurfacing facial peel, and Artistry time defiance Vitamin C + Wild Yam Serum, which is a special care product with Vitamin C and wild yam plant extract.
  3. Fast and long-term effect - the duration of daily use to obtain visually noticeable results is no more than 10 minutes.
  4. Low cost of drugs, which makes the detox procedure accessible to almost every woman.

Cosmetics “ARTISTRY”

Aristry intensive skincare

Renewing peeling for facial skin is a product with a quick and intense, but delicate effect. Removal of keratinized cells is carried out thanks to enzymes of biological origin, acting almost immediately after application, but not aggressively. Therefore, the drug helps remove dead skin cells from the face without damaging the protective epidermal layer. In addition, the liposomes it contains help restore the protective barrier and hydration, and oat extract stimulates metabolism in cells.

Thus, as a result of the influence of this product, the processes of cellular regeneration and renewal are accelerated, and skin permeability to cosmetic nutritional components increases. It can be used for any type of skin on people of any age. At the same time, the drug acts on young skin as a cleanser, and on aging skin it also acts as a means of stimulating cell regeneration, restoring tone, color and relief. It does not cause irritation or spots of redness, and combines very well with the main ARISTRY care products, except for those with a peeling effect. When used 2 times a week, it lasts for a month and a half.

How to deal with toxins, and is it necessary to do so?

Despite the fact that special detox programs for the face and the whole body are offered everywhere, the fight against toxins is a dubious undertaking. The fact is that our body does a great job of detoxifying on its own. Our body has everything to successfully remove potentially dangerous compounds to the outside - with the help of the lymphatic system, kidneys and liver.

The same applies to the skin. Toxins penetrate through the pores into the body, are carried throughout the circulatory system, enter the intercellular fluid, and are then successfully eliminated. Therefore, in general, we do not need a special detox to improve skin condition.

Giphy

If for some reason the body cannot cope with toxins, creams and serums labeled “detox” will not help you here. This requires a full medical examination and adequate treatment for the “breakdown” that led to the accumulation of toxic compounds.

How to identify the problem:

  • skin suddenly becomes dull or gray;
  • peeling, itching, rashes appeared that were not there before;
  • there is a constant feeling of fatigue;
  • having problems sleeping;
  • immune defense decreases.

If such symptoms appear, you should contact your family doctor or therapist, but not a cosmetologist.

Opinion of cosmetologists

Doctors perform detoxification cleansing programs and use separate products in their work. Cosmetologists notice positive changes, but often the results are ineffective. It is also not always possible to get a bright instant result.

The cosmetologist sees the effectiveness of detox cleansing.

The cosmetologist likes to use products with a detox effect.

The cosmetologist sees the results of detox cleansing, but the effectiveness is weak.

Precautionary measures

You will have to refuse skin detoxification if there are contraindications:

  • any diseases in the active phase;
  • inflammation, irritation, damage to the skin;
  • allergy to components of the products intended for use;
  • development of malignant tumors;
  • pregnancy, breastfeeding period.

The implementation of the detoxification program is postponed; in case of allergies, products with an acceptable composition are selected.

There are no side effects when doing a detox cleanse correctly. Short-term redness and mild discomfort are considered standard phenomena. Complications include: allergies, activation of herpes, and the appearance of inflammation.

Patient reviews

Products with a detoxifying effect are often used in home care. The results of the procedures are visible, but do not last long. Intensive professional detoxification programs are rarely performed. Many do not believe in the effectiveness of the result.
