Useful recommendations: how to apply oil to your hair at home to get the same effect as after salon treatments

Every woman dreams of thick, shiny, silky hair. One of the effective ways to achieve this goal is to use natural oils in daily care. I like to apply a variety of oils to my hair before washing. It takes a little time, but the effect is impressive. In this article, you will learn how to use hair oils correctly to achieve the results you want.

The benefits of natural oils for hair

Vegetable oils have a wide variety of acid compositions and contain vitamins, due to which they strengthen, smooth, restore hair, and protect against fragility. Look at Indian women who always have thick long hair. This is all because they use oils in hair care throughout their lives.

When my hair starts to fall out, I regularly apply some kind of oil before washing my hair. I tried different oils: coconut, sesame, argan, broccoli, macadamia.

Regular use of oils heals our hair from the inside, and makes it shiny and silky on the outside. Some oils should be used as deeply nourishing masks, and some as smoothing masks. We'll talk further about what this depends on.

Features of choice

Hair care using oils is controversial. Some trichologists believe that oil extracts only dry out the hair shaft, making it even more susceptible to external influences.

At the same time, most specialists allow the use of oil products, but only of high quality and based on the existing problem. Another recommendation is to use them in moderation, otherwise there is a high risk of getting the opposite result to the desired one.

All oils according to their origin are divided into:

  • natural - obtained from plant materials - flowers, leaves, bark, roots;
  • mineral - obtained from oil that has gone through several stages of purification.

Of course, to care for hair, body, and nails, it is advisable to use natural products, since they are rich in various vitamins and microelements, which cannot be said about mineral substances.

In addition to classification by origin, oils are also divided into:

  • ethereal - highly concentrated, extracted from ether-bearing plants, that is, those that accumulate ethers. For example - neroli, patchouli, ylang-ylang;
  • basic, fatty – cosmetic, extracted from fruits, seeds, plant kernels, where esters do not accumulate. The basic ones include grape seed pomace, wheat germ, and coconut.
  1. Essential oils are not used on their own - only as part of a fatty squeeze, cream or other product, as they can cause irritation and burns.
  2. Basic oils are allowed to be used both in pure form and as part of masks and creams.
  3. In addition to natural oils, various manufacturers also offer ready-made oil-based cosmetic products. They may consist entirely of one or more oils, or include additional components - vitamins, minerals, extracts, or some synthetic substances.

Both natural oils and cosmetic products based on them can be used - the main thing is to choose a product based on the type of problem.

The main hair problems that the use of oil products can help solve:

  • loss and slow growth;
  • dryness and brittleness;
  • lack of shine.

At the same time, keep in mind that oil is only an additional care in a complex of procedures and habits. It is useless to apply an oil mixture to your curls in the hope of moisturizing and restoring if you straighten your strands with an iron 2 times a day.

Penetrating and enveloping hair oils

All oils are divided into penetrating and enveloping. This must be taken into account when choosing and applying them to your hair.

Penetrating oils have small molecules and are able to penetrate the hair, nourish and restore it from the inside. Such oils take a long time to penetrate, about 8 hours, so it is better to apply them to your hair overnight and then wash them off with shampoo. Penetrating oils are very fatty, heavy, they are basically butters, they cannot be used too often.

Enveloping oils have large molecules; they do not penetrate inside the hair, but envelop it from the outside, creating a thin film. Such oils protect, retain moisture in the hair and have a conditioning effect. It is enough to keep them on your hair for half an hour before washing your hair, or use them as a leave-in product after washing your hair with shampoo: apply a drop of oil to still damp hair. Enveloping oils are very light, non-greasy, and are easily washed off from the hair.

Which oils are classified as penetrating:

  • coconut
  • shi
  • avocado
  • olive
  • macadamia

Enveloping oils:

  • broccoli
  • almond
  • linen
  • jojoba
  • corn
  • argan
  • grape seed
  • soy
  • walnut

What you need to know about home care for smoothness

To make your hair even shinier, you can use a hair dryer or a hot straightener. To work with hot tools, you need to use industrial oils.

Keep in mind that “pure” coconut oil and burdock oil without silicones are deeply absorbed. It is designed to strengthen the follicles, not volume and shine. This product should not be applied immediately before using a curling iron or corrugation.

Otherwise, your hair will become even duller. If you use a thick hair strengthening product, use a round brush and hair dryer after you have washed your hair and any remaining oil. You will get shiny strands and a fragrant trail.

Perhaps you are too lazy to style with hot air. It's not a problem. After all, you always have a wonderful tool for care - your own hands. Wash your hair and comb your hair carefully. And then squeeze a couple of drops of the finished elixir into your palm, rub it with your hands and run your fingers through, distributing the strands, as if you were combing. Then apply more oil to your palms and smooth your hair from above with your hands, paying special attention to the ends.

How to choose oil according to hair type

Dry hair

In this case, you need to choose oils that retain moisture in the hair shaft. Oils themselves cannot add moisture, that’s why they are oils, but they retain moisture quite well. We have already said that enveloping oils form a thin film on the hair and prevent moisture from quickly evaporating from the surface of the hair. Therefore, these oils are suitable for dry hair: broccoli, almond, flaxseed, argan, corn, jojoba.

Greasy hair

Oils that contain large amounts of lauric acid are suitable for this hair type. One of these oils is coconut oil, which contains 50% lauric acid. This also includes babassu oil - 40%. Due to the lauric acid in the composition, these oils dry out the hair. But this does not mean that enveloping oils are not suitable for oily hair.

Good ready-made products for oily and other curls

If you don’t have time to make a mask yourself, or simply don’t have the desire, buy ready-made products. For example, there is a whole line of “Organic Oil” products from Phytocosmetics.

These masks are designed specifically to restore dry and lifeless curls. They contain natural oils, and they help restore the protective shell. By the way, thanks to these masks, moisture in the curls will be retained longer.

A line of more professional products - masks from L'Occitane. They contain more nutrients, including oil. Shea and olive oils will be especially beneficial. Imagine being able to achieve almost salon-like results while saving time! You just need to choose a mask and enjoy.

For lovers of luxury care, there is a special line of masks from Kerastase. They contain the most valuable and nutritious micro-oils, as well as useful substances that will help make strands healthy and strong. Please note that the use of such oils should not be too frequent.

There are other great products you can find in stores, such as Luxury 6 Oils from L'Oreal Paris.

How to use hair oils correctly

Oil wraps

How to properly apply oils to your hair to get the best results? For oil wrapping, it is correct to heat the oil in a water bath. Warm oil works better and faster on hair. Oils are not recommended to be applied to the hair roots regularly to avoid clogging the pores of the scalp. This is especially true for oily hair. Therefore, we apply warm oil to the length of dirty hair and thoroughly treat the roots. If applying to the roots, massage the scalp well. It is advisable to insulate your head with polyethylene and wear a hat. Depending on what kind of oil it is, leave it on your hair from half an hour to 8-10 hours.

If you leave the oil mask on overnight and find it difficult to sleep with your head covered, simply place a towel on your pillow to avoid getting it dirty.

If enough time has passed and the oil mask is absorbed, it should be washed off well with shampoo in 2 times. I had a period when oils stopped being washed off from my hair, although I had never had such a problem before. Perhaps the hair is simply oversaturated with oils. You just need to monitor their condition. Sometimes it’s worth replacing your care, for example, using cream masks instead of oil masks.

Applying oil to ends

Enveloping oils can tidy up dry hair ends. Of course, split ends cannot be glued together and damaged curls cannot be cured, but oils will help them look good in appearance. Take a drop of oil and rub between your palms. Run these palms over the ends of washed, damp hair. The oils will be absorbed and after drying the hair will not be greasy

Oil as a conditioner

Oil heated between your palms can also be applied to the length of washed, damp hair. After drying, the hair will be smooth and shiny. Argan and broccoli oils are well suited for these purposes.

Contraindications

The main contraindication is individual intolerance to oils. Before use, test for an allergic reaction - apply a drop of oil to your wrist or behind your ear. If no redness or swelling occurs within 24 hours, the product can be used.

It is also necessary to take into account that oils wash out the dye from dyed hair, so if the hair may lose color. Some oils, such as olive oil, are not suitable for blondes because they can, on the contrary, color the hair and give it an unattractive shade.

Oils have the power to transform weakened, thin strands into gorgeous hair. It is enough to choose a comfortable method of application. You can alternate light products for daily combing with ethers that do not need to be washed off, or apply the product only to the ends. And at the end of the week, carry out the main procedure with an oil wrap. The main thing is not to overdo it and use this natural beauty product wisely.

The most popular hair oils

Coconut oil

Strengthens the hair shaft, enriches it with necessary components. It is used to increase hair thickness, eliminate dandruff, and moisturize the skin. Unrefined coconut oil contains a large number of active ingredients, but can clog the pores of the scalp. Refined oil is less healthy, but lasts longer and has no side effects.

Almond oil

It will be used against hair loss and to stimulate hair growth. Almond oil saturates hair with useful substances, gives it flexibility, silkiness, and increases elasticity. Helpful for split ends.

Argan oil

They are used not only in cosmetology, but also in medicine. An expensive remedy from Morocco, where it is called “life-giving,” justifies its price and name. The chemicals that form the basis of the precious liquid affect the follicles, skin, and hair. This oil is applied and used to combat baldness and excessive hair loss. Regular use involves applying a few drops to damp hair as a leave-in.

Burr oil

Stimulates cell regeneration, activates metabolism, increases blood circulation, strengthens the hair shaft. It is used for anti-inflammatory purposes to prevent hair loss. Burdock oil is an oil infusion of burdock root; you can prepare it yourself at home.

Castor oil

It is made from the seeds of a plant that is often found in flower beds. Castor oil contains acids that have a beneficial effect on the condition of not only hair, but also eyebrows and eyelashes. This oil does not dry out, does not form a film on the hair, and is perfectly absorbed.

Shea Butter

It has a dense structure, white color, and a nutty aroma. Before use, it must be heated either in a water bath or between the palms. Shea butter restores the structure of the hair shaft after thermal and chemical exposure, curling. It restores a healthy appearance and gives hair protection. The shelf life of this product is more than two years; warm storage is allowed. The shea butter mask must be kept on your hair all night.

Jojoba oil

The structure is more like wax - this allows you to use oil for the purpose of rapid skin regeneration. It protects hair from ultraviolet radiation and temperature changes. The alcohols contained in its composition affect the functioning of the sebaceous glands and have a gentle effect on oily skin types.

Olive oil

Enriches hair, restores elasticity and silkiness. The substances that olive oil contains saturate the hair follicle, relieve the skin from dryness, dandruff, and flaking. The use of oil for long hair is especially useful. It is good to infuse herbs with olive oil - it turns out to be a doubly useful product for hair.

Linseed oil

Covers each hair with an invisible film, which becomes a barrier to the negative influence of external factors. As a result of using linseed oil, hair becomes silky, smooth, manageable and incredibly shiny. This is also a wonderful treatment for the ends of your hair. The effect of masks with this oil is similar to lamination.

Produced effect of funds on this basis

The effect of oil masks can be seen immediately after use. After treatment, the hair is saturated with useful microelements, which has a beneficial effect on the condition of the curls. Also, the presence of oils allows you to add shine, volume, and remove excess pomp.

A definite plus is the opportunity to get a salon effect for a relatively small amount of money. Invest a little time and desire - and you will get what every girl dreams of! Choose a recipe for your type, and tomorrow you will be showered with compliments, and you will become the center of your circle.

Masks can be used in courses. Apply the mixture once a week for 1 to 3 months, and then take a short break. Remember that less is more! Oversaturation with oils can lead to the fact that your strands will not say “thank you” to you, but will only look tired and tortured. Take the best of oils, but don't overdo it!

As a mixture they go well together. Both of these oils are quite thick in consistency and it can sometimes be difficult to rinse thick hair.

    Interesting Facts

Vegetable oils have been used by humans since ancient times. Some types of this product have amazing properties, and their production is a unique process.

    • Flaxseed oil contains a record concentration of Omega-3 fatty acids, which are not synthesized by the human body.
    • With the correct production technology, the temperature should not exceed +47º C. Otherwise, the product cannot be considered organic.
    • Pumpkin seed oil contains the maximum amount of zinc, which is necessary for beautiful skin and hair. This substance is an essential component for protein synthesis.
    • Burdock is obtained from the roots of burdock, and not from the bright, prickly flowers. It contains many vitamins and mineral salts, as well as tannins.
    • Jojoba contains chemical elements identical to wax. It is obtained from the fruits of an evergreen shrub growing in Mexico, Israel, and Argentina. It retains its properties for a long time, which was confirmed by the analysis of oil residues found in the pyramids of Egypt.
    • Argan is rightfully considered precious. To obtain one liter of product, 1 quintal of seeds from the fruit of a tree that grows only in the biosphere reserve in Morocco is manually processed.
