Homemade baking soda scrub for skin: face, body, head, preparation and use

Therefore, the scrub should be used not so much for hygiene as for rejuvenation. However, this technique also has its disadvantages. The first of them is that the cells in the lower layer of the epidermis have not yet matured enough to fully perform their functions. This means that, along with the absorption of beneficial components by the skin, the impact on the deeper layers of the skin from factors that previously hardly touched them will also increase. Among them:

  • solar radiation;
  • temperature changes;
  • air humidity level;
  • chemically active particles from the environment.

The second disadvantage of their use is that all scrubs irritate the skin. This does not depend on the type of exfoliating agent in their composition, since food acids are no less irritating and allergenic than peach kernel powder, for example. The same applies to a face scrub made from salt and soda.

How does baking soda affect the skin?

The effect of sodium bicarbonate on human skin is multifaceted. The following properties of the product are noted:

  • have an anti-inflammatory and restorative effect - eliminate swelling, redness and rash during allergies, itching after mosquito bites. It is common for soda powder to speed up the healing and regeneration process, restore water-alkaline balance in the body;
  • demonstrate disinfection and antifungal skills - destroy microbes and bacteria that stimulate the formation of ulcers and pimples, “fight” candidiasis caused by Candida fungi;
  • detect a cleansing feature - clean clogged pores, remove dead epidermal cells, remove makeup residues (NaHCO3 as a sorbent absorbs the products of the functioning of the sebaceous glands);
  • have a rejuvenating effect on the dermis like “anti-age” cosmetics - smooth out wrinkles, maintain skin tone;
  • help in the fight against burns - by increasing regeneration, the recovery of those who have received sunburn is faster.

However, “soda” procedures cannot be used if there are contraindications in the form of:

  • the presence of ulcers and open wounds, since soda is predisposed to corrode the diseased area only aggravate the disease;
  • tendency to severe drying of the skin, therefore it is permissible to use sodium bicarbonate in tandem with soft components - moisturizing creams, cosmetic oils, kefir, etc.;
  • with thin, delicate epidermis, the use of NaHCO3 requires extreme caution, since in case of an overdose, baking soda can burn the epidermis.

Contraindications for use

Like any other remedy, when using this ingredient you should familiarize yourself with possible side effects and take into account contraindications. Don't use it if:

  • the integrity of the skin is damaged, there are open wounds;
  • there is a vascular network;
  • you are prone to allergies or intolerance to any component of the scrub.

Regular facial skin care with homemade soda scrubs will help get rid of many problems. To do this, you just need to choose the most suitable set of components and regularly carry out the facial peeling procedure.

Salt in home cosmetology: benefits and applications

Salt is one of the most important elements for life in general and our body in particular. It is not for nothing that dear guests were greeted with bread and salt in Rus', and in many religions salt is associated with wisdom, loyalty and purity.

We wrote a separate review about the use of salt masks in home cosmetology; we highly recommend that you familiarize yourself with this material.

Inside the tiny crystal contains:

  1. Iodine. Supports metabolism and has a beneficial effect on the activity of the thyroid gland.
  2. Sodium. Reduces moisture loss from the skin, which means it prolongs the youth of the skin.
  3. Bromine. It is an excellent natural antiseptic (disinfectant).
  4. Potassium. Helps regulate water balance in the body and supports muscle function.
  5. Calcium. Stimulates skin production of collagen.
  6. Magnesium. Reduces pain.

Of course, salt is practically not used in its pure form for cosmetic purposes: it is a rather aggressive component, and for comfortable application, salt masks are enriched with essential oils, herbs and other “softening” ingredients.

Salt for facial skin

After about two months of washing with saline solution (choose the intensity of the solution according to your feelings), you may want to stop using creams altogether. You can also massage your gums in the evenings with a brush soaked in a saline solution. Rub the remaining water into your hands, they will thank you too.

It is also very useful to make a scrub from salt. For this you can use sea or table salt.

Sea salt is obtained from the evaporation of sea water. At the same time, the resulting salt completely retains a huge amount of trace elements and minerals. It is worth adding that the highest quality sea salt is always slightly damp to the touch.

A facial scrub using sea salt will give your skin the maximum amount of unique ingredients. It should be remembered that the salt used to prepare the scrub should not have fragrances or additives in its composition. Before making a scrub out of it, it must be further ground.

As for table salt, it comes from underground deposits. It does not contain many useful substances, but it has high antiseptic properties. Iodine is often added to it. A scrub made from this salt will perfectly cleanse the face, help increase blood flow to the epidermis and improve the overall condition of the facial skin.

Precautions when using homemade scrubs

Following some rules will help you achieve the desired result.

  1. Use of fresh products.
  2. Drinking filtered, mineral, settled water.
  3. Steaming the skin before the procedure.
  4. Rub the mix in with gentle circular movements.
  5. Compliance with time frames. The first scrub is left for several minutes, then the applied product remains on the skin for no more than 10 minutes.
  6. Washing at the end of the manipulation with a decoction based on medicinal herbs is preferable.
  7. Deep cleansing is carried out once a week. To get rid of acne - 1 time every 3 days.
  8. Following a course of treatment - a break is taken after 10 procedures.
  9. The scrub is prepared for 1 use only.

When using a product with soda, you must be careful not to get it into your eyes - sodium bicarbonate is harmful to the eyeball. If contact occurs, eyes should be rinsed immediately with water.

Removing the scrub from the skin must be thorough. There are ingredients that corrode the epidermis (for example, salt, lemon).

Reviews

Marina, 31 years old:

I used professional products before. But I tried cleansing my skin with baking soda and stayed true to it. It works more effectively and, most importantly, is softer than purchased products from the catalog. I experimented with different compositions, my skin liked the soda + salt mixture better.

Veronica, 25 years old:

Soda is my salvation. Nothing helped get rid of black specks all over my nose, and after salon treatments, ugly wide holes of cleaned pores remained. And when I started scrubbing my nose thoroughly with baking soda and liquid baby soap, after 10-12 days I didn’t see a single dot.

How to properly exfoliate with a salt scrub?

In order to treat the surface of the epithelium, it is necessary to use a gentle method, since the skin here is the most vulnerable and sensitive.

1. Before the procedure, the face needs to be prepared: the epidermis needs to be warmed up so that the salt does not cause irritation. To do this, you need to wash your face with hot water or hold your face over a steam bath.

2. The prepared salt scrub should be applied slowly and carefully, without departing from the massage lines. The area around the eyes, of course, should not be touched.

3. Using smooth movements, distribute the scrub over your face for 3-4 minutes.

Preparing and using a mask of soda and salt: useful tips

  1. Do not use salt and soda masks if you have:
  • allergy,
  • open wounds on the face,

  1. Before applying each new mask, test it on the skin of your wrist. If you feel a burning sensation, do not use this product.
  2. Apply all masks using light circular massage movements.
  3. A mask containing baking soda and salt is used for the face no more than once every ten days.
