DIY sugar scrub recipes for face and body

Age-related changes affect the condition of the skin and its appearance. While children's skin is soft and smooth, adults often experience flaking, sagging, and a dull grayish tint. This is due to the slowdown in regeneration processes.

The keratinized cells should slough off within a month, exposing a new layer of epidermis. However, they often linger on the skin, creating a crusty effect. Through the dense layer of keratinized cells, nutrients do not enter the dermis. Pores become clogged, inflammation occurs, and ingrown hairs appear.

Scrubbing is a useful cosmetic procedure that helps cleanse the skin. A special product with small abrasive particles has a nutritional base. The scrub removes dead skin cells, dust, excess fat, softens the skin and normalizes water metabolism. In addition, the procedure improves blood flow, disperses lymph and saturates the epidermis with oxygen.

The modern market is rich in cosmetics for skin cleansing. However, some effective formulations can be made at home yourself. For example, a sugar body scrub is a unique product that allows you to benefit from a harmful product.

Who should not use the scrub?

Every woman dreams of having skin as soft as velvet. Many girls do cleansing procedures at home, and some of you prefer a cozy spa room.

However, no matter what method and process of body care you choose, it is important to remember that there are contraindications to these procedures and they must be observed.

Pregnancy

The time of waiting for your baby is the most exciting and wonderful time for a woman. It is important to know and remember that many body care procedures are contraindicated at this time. This is due to the fact that the expectant mother has increased skin sensitivity and may have an adverse effect on the baby.

Since most spa scrubs contain essential oils, which are not recommended to be used during pregnancy. Also, careless movement can cause great harm and have poorly predictable consequences. So, it's not worth the risk!

Skin damage

If you have small scratches, open wounds, or burns on your skin, then scrubs are strictly contraindicated until you have completely healed your body.

Otherwise, you risk aggravating the injury, causing pain, delaying the healing process, and developing an infection.

Fresh tan

If you have just sunbathed and got tanned, then you should not use a scrub right away, as this can lead to skin irritation, increased sensitivity to the sun and the risk of age spots.

Sensitive skin

Those with very sensitive and allergy-prone skin should be extremely careful, as some products may be contraindicated.

To harm your health, you need to do an allergy test by applying a little scrub to your wrist. It is also recommended to use fine exfoliating particles in selected recipes.

Vein problems

If you have venous nodes and spider veins on your skin, then it is better to avoid procedures. Or don't use scrubs in problem areas.

What is a sugar scrub?

Sugar scrub is a mixture of sugar and other ingredients intended for:

  • cleansing the skin of dead cells;
  • preparing the skin for applying cosmetics;
  • cellulite treatment.

Scrubbing effectiveness

The high effectiveness of sugar scrubbing is achieved due to three main factors:

  • the grains are quite large;
  • at home it is possible to diversify recipes by adding additional ingredients;
  • Due to the low cost of the ingredients, scrubbing can be done regularly.

Effect on the skin

In addition to exfoliating, sugar has a massage effect on the skin. During the procedure, dead cells are separated from the skin, and living cells are nourished. How does this happen?

  1. When scrubbing, the beneficial substances added to the product are absorbed into the cell composition.
  2. Through massage, blood supply to the upper layers of the skin increases. Cells receive nutrition from blood.

Why is a scrub needed and how to use it correctly

Cleansing the skin with products containing abrasive particles is not done every day, it is not necessary. The scrub should be used 2 or 3 times a week, depending on your lifestyle and skin type.

With one cosmetic product you can achieve the following results:

  1. Deep cleansing of the upper layer of the epidermis. Our cells work without interruption: sweat and fat glands secrete a secretion (this is fat and sweat), which mixes with dust and remains on the surface. This happens regardless of whether a person leads an active lifestyle or not. Even in a state of rest, cells continue their work. Soap alone is not enough to care for the skin of the body; it can only remove the top layer of impurities, and a dense film of fat will remain “lying” and prevent the pores from breathing. Various scrubs are intended for deep cleansing of the skin.
  2. In addition to nutrition, the scrub will help moisturize the skin and saturate it with useful substances. If you use a product based on oil plus vitamins, then in this way you can not only thoroughly cleanse the skin, but also moisturize it and nourish it with useful components.
  3. High-quality cleansing of the skin from dead particles is especially important for teenagers, because the cells actively produce sebum and sweat. If the skin is not cleansed, then certain areas of the body become rough, these places darken.
  4. Using a scrub, you can give a light body massage and improve blood circulation. In this way, the restoration processes of metabolism in the body are activated, and fat deposits do not accumulate. A scrub can be a real salvation for girls who struggle with cellulite and stretch marks.
  5. A scrub is a unique product that simultaneously cleanses the skin, nourishes, moisturizes and also tones. The ideal option is a sugar scrub; it is suitable for any skin type and copes well with the tasks.

Benefits and harms

This product has a number of useful properties. Taking them into account, there is an additional incentive to scrub regularly.

Beneficial features

The main beneficial properties of using a sugar scrub include:

  1. The versatility of the product. A sugar-based scrub can be used for any skin type. By expanding the composition by adding other ingredients, you can make a product that will be useful for oily, dry or combination skin.
  2. Scrubbing takes place in several stages, since, dissolving in water during the procedure, sugar particles become smaller and smaller. Thus, scrubbing gradually turns into peeling, cleansing the pores more deeply.
  3. Sugar contains fructose. This product has a strong effect on the skin, making it velvety. After the procedure, there is an improvement in the condition of the skin, an even radiant shine and smoothness.
  4. Regular use of this product helps reduce oily skin. If you constantly clean it of contaminants, there will be no problems with excess fat content.
  5. The ability to make the product not only exfoliating, but also nourishing. Adding extracts, oils or decoctions gives it a medicinal effect.
  6. The product fights sagging skin and cellulite. Sugar scrub is credited with a lifting effect, since after regular use, especially for the hips, buttocks and legs, the skin tightens.
  7. Regular use of a scrub helps prevent skin diseases, which are often caused by sweat and dust. By cleansing the skin, their risk is significantly reduced.
  8. Regular use of sugar scrub makes your complexion more beautiful and healthy. This effect is achieved by stimulating blood circulation in this area. Scars become less noticeable and stretch marks disappear.
  9. If the product is made from cane sugar, it has a rejuvenating effect. The components included in cane sugar can lighten age spots and hide the signs of aging.
  10. Safety of use. A sugar-based scrub has a minimal number of contraindications for use. It is approved for use even by pregnant and nursing mothers.

Cooking recommendations

It is better to use cane sugar to make a scrub. It contains more useful substances. All products must be fresh and not expired. Juices should be freshly squeezed, decoctions should be freshly brewed and cooled. Sour cream, honey and similar products must have a uniform consistency.

IMPORTANT! You need to mix the ingredients one at a time, without adding everything at once. Sugar is added to the composition last so that it does not have time to melt before use.

For one-time use

The scrub, which is prepared for one-time use, should be prepared in a minimum quantity. It cannot be stored, especially if it contains natural juices. Scrubs based on liquid components cannot be stored even in the refrigerator, since the sugar will still melt.

Preserving the scrub by adding preservatives to it is not recommended. Why?

  • Firstly, because preservatives are not good for the skin.
  • Secondly, such a scrub cannot be called natural.
  • Thirdly, when storing the liquid scrub, the sugar will begin to form a jelly. This will significantly reduce the effectiveness of the next procedure.
  • Fourth, choosing the right preservative and purchasing it can be an impossible task.

For long term use

Such scrubs must be hard. The base for their manufacture can be a soap base or butter. These products will take longer to make but can be used within a few weeks.

Among the main disadvantages of hard scrubs, one can highlight the base for their production. Soap and sugar scrub dries out the skin. If you choose batter for production, that is, solid oil, the product becomes very greasy, and after using it you need to additionally cleanse the skin.

The main advantages of using solid scrubs include:

  1. The possibility of using them on the road, on vacation, in the country and where it is not possible to prepare a new one every time.
  2. Such scrubs are also inexpensive, since once you prepare the scrub, you can use it several times.
  3. Preparing a reusable scrub saves a lot of time. This can be a solution for those who work a lot, take care of children and do not have enough time to prepare homemade cosmetics.

Smoothing effect

You can cope with facial wrinkles and strengthen the tone of the skin by using granulated sugar, badyagu and semolina:

  • 15 g sugar;
  • 10 g badyagi;
  • 10 g semolina.

Mix granulated sugar with semolina. Add dried badyagi seaweed. Distribute the mixture evenly on the face and massage for 7-8 minutes. This composition is suitable for aging skin devoid of rosacea. It stimulates blood flow and will help resume metabolic processes.

This consistency is not suitable for sensitive skin and pronounced vascular network. Due to the silicon oxide contained in badiag, using the powder can lead to minor hemorrhages on the face.

Homemade Sugar Scrub Recipes

Some formulations are universal and can be suitable for both the body and face. Those used to cleanse the décolleté, neck and face are most often used to remove dead skin from the lips. However, it is advisable to prepare a separate scrub for each zone, which takes into account the characteristics of the skin of a particular area of the body.

Facial peeling with sugar

How to do sugar peeling

In order for a sugar scrub to give maximum cleansing effect, it must be used correctly. There are several stages of using the product:

  1. A warm bath or hot shower helps open pores. It takes 5-10 minutes for the skin to steam.
  2. The sugar scrub is applied in circular massage movements to the entire body. Strong pressure can cause skin irritation, so problem areas need to be treated especially carefully.
  3. A light, short massage of the skin will improve blood circulation and lymph movement. Gently rubbing the sugar scrub helps exfoliate the stratum corneum.
  4. After the massage, the product is thoroughly washed off with warm water. Ideally, the body should dry itself. But since this is often inconvenient even at home, you can use a towel. However, you shouldn’t rub the body, just get it wet.
  5. After the sugar scrub, a moisturizing lotion or nourishing cream is applied to the treated areas of the skin.

It is better to start treating the entire body from the feet towards the pelvis. Treat your hands from palms up to shoulders. Rub the belly in a circular motion. And it is better to avoid the chest, neck, armpits, and inner thighs.

It is permissible to keep the sugar scrub for 5 to 15 minutes. Those with oily skin types can undergo several cleansing procedures per week. For the rest, it is better to limit use to 1 time.

Salt face scrub. Facial scrub – cleansing and healthy skin

A homemade facial scrub is an effective product for cleansing and healing the skin.
Unlike expensive salon procedures, it is a fairly budget-friendly, but no less effective remedy. For example, a face scrub made from salt promotes an almost instant transformation of the skin. Vanilla peeling is ready. This product is good to use in the bath. The skin will be steamed and the pores will be open. Peeling will not only clean out all skin impurities, but will also relieve any stress thanks to its relaxing aroma.

Coffee against cellulite

Caffeine is one of the main ingredients used in anti-cellulite products. An effective fight against “orange peel” can be carried out at home. To do this, prepare:

  1. Half a glass of sugar.
  2. Ground coffee - 2 tablespoons.
  3. Half a glass of olive oil.

Apply the product to problem areas and massage each for at least 3-5 minutes. The skin should turn significantly red. Perform the procedure every other day for a month. After each peeling, apply anti-cellulite cream or serum to your body.

Product selection rules

To prepare a facial scrub, it is best to take regular beet sugar with small grains - “sand”, since large crystals can damage the skin.

Product requirements:

  • without foreign odors;
  • only white.

Brown, unrefined varieties are available in health food stores. These include cane, maple, and sorghum sugar.

Compared to refined beets, they contain small amounts of calcium and B vitamins.

But when used in cosmetology, they can provoke an allergic reaction due to the admixture of molasses, which explains the brown color of the product.

Palm and coconut sugar can be used in making scrubs, but their effect is similar to beet sugar, and the price is much higher.
