A benign formation that forms from subcutaneous adipose tissue is called a wen. If it causes physical or aesthetic discomfort, it should be removed.

A fatty tissue (also called a lipoma) is formed from subcutaneous fatty tissue. Can be located on the head, face, body, arms and legs. This is a soft, mobile formation, there is no painful sensation when you press it, its contours are clearly marked. Wen is a benign formation, but if it causes inconvenience, it is removed.

About lipoma on the forehead

A lipoma on the forehead is not dangerous to humans. It rarely degenerates into a malignant tumor. The neoplasm has the following distinctive features:

  • shape with clear boundaries;
  • slow growth does not cause pain;
  • when pressed, the tumor moves to the side;
  • the skin over the neoplasm retains its previous structure and color.

Wen removal

Wen removal is a method of therapeutic intervention when the tumor reaches a size of 10 centimeters or more.

There are several types of lipomas depending on the location and structure of the tumor. On the forehead appear:

  1. Milium. Externally they resemble whiteheads. Milia are small in size. They occur against the background of blockage of the ducts through which sebum is released.
  2. Xanthelasma. It is a flat, yellow neoplasm. It rises slightly above the surface of the skin. Mainly localized on the eyelid. It is considered a more dangerous type of tumor, as it originates in the deep layers of the skin.
  3. Fibrous tumors. The internal structure of the wen consists of adipose and connective tissue.
  4. Diffuse. The most common type of tumor. Formed from adipose tissue.

The sizes of wen on the forehead vary from a few millimeters to tens of centimeters in diameter. The substance that fills lipomas is contained in a capsule.

A forehead fat is a benign tumor of fatty tissue on the forehead. Causes: metabolic disorders, hormonal imbalance, heredity.

Symptoms: round, soft, mobile tumor, usually painless. Diagnosis based on examination and biopsy.

Treatment: for small sizes, local medications; for large sizes, treatment is surgical, electrocoagulation, cryodestruction, laser and radio wave removal methods.

The frequency of spread of such neoplasms does not depend on the patient’s age and gender.

How to get rid of it?

Since the presence of a wen may indicate diseases of the internal organs, it is recommended to undergo a comprehensive examination . This will prevent possible relapse in the future.

Currently, various methods of getting rid of lipomas are practiced, including: drug therapy, surgical removal, treatment with traditional medicine.

Drug therapy

Drug treatment at home is applicable only if the wen is small in size (no more than 3 cm) . In other situations, qualified medical assistance will be required.

The following drugs are commonly used as therapeutic agents:

  • Vishnevsky ointment - a small amount of ointment is applied to a cotton swab, which is applied to the affected area for 10-12 hours and secured with an adhesive plaster. After the specified time, a new compress is made. The procedure is repeated for 3 days , after which they take a one-day break and again extend the treatment for a three-day period. The natural components in the product (birch tar and castor oil) penetrate into the deep layers of the skin and draw the contents of the wen out. Average cost: from 30 rubles.
  • Ichthyol ointment - has an anti-inflammatory and antiseptic effect, penetrating the lipoma tissue and freeing the skin layers from fat accumulations. Use in the same way as in the above example with Vishnevsky ointment. Average price: about 100 rubles.
  • Ointment "Vitaon" (Karavaev's balm) is an effective antiseptic and regenerating agent, which contains natural components of plant origin (extract of pine buds, St. John's wort, mint, yarrow, rose hips, etc.). The product is available in the form of ointment and balm. The ointment is applied in the form of compresses until completely dry, which are replaced less than 3 times a day. The balm is used spot-on, lubricating the area of the wen 2 times a day. The drug will clean out the subcutaneous tissue within two weeks (at least). Approximate cost: from 200 rubles and above.
  • Ointment "Videstim" - thanks to the content of retinol, the product breaks down the tumor, reducing it in size. The drug should be used in the form of compresses 2-3 times a day. Replacing one compress with another should be done as it dries completely. Average price: from 100 rubles.

Important! Some patients use a method such as piercing the wen with a needle. However, experts categorically do not recommend doing this at home, since this can introduce an infection under the skin and cause sepsis.

How to delete?

The following types of operations are used to remove wen:

  • Liposuction is the dissection of a lipoma followed by drawing out the contents of the growth using a vacuum tube.
  • Laser therapy is the coagulation of fat cells using high-frequency laser radiation.
  • Surgical method - used if the wen is large in size, as well as when inflammation and suppuration of the tissues have begun.
  • Radio wave coagulation is carried out using special devices that produce high-frequency radiation of radio waves, with the help of which the tumor is removed.

Causes

The exact reasons for the appearance of lipoma on the forehead have not yet been established. It is believed that such neoplasms arise due to blockage of the sebaceous glands. More often, lipomas on the forehead and other parts of the body are formed due to metabolic disorders, malfunctions of internal organs, circulatory and lymphatic systems.

After surgical removal of a lipoma on the forehead, symptoms such as local swelling in the area around the eyes and on the bridge of the nose often occur.
Such manifestations are normal and can be relieved with the help of external anti-inflammatory and absorbable drugs in the form of gels and ointments.

Among the probable causes of the appearance of wen on the forehead are the following factors:

  • dysfunction of the gastrointestinal tract;
  • hereditary predisposition, in which a person has the formation of an excess amount of adipose tissue at the DNA level;
  • liver pathologies;
  • dysfunction ;
  • violation of metabolic processes;
  • diseases of the endocrine system;
  • diseases of the thyroid or pancreas;
  • dysfunction ;
  • malfunction of the sebaceous glands.

Which doctor treats wen

A fatty tumor is a benign tumor that forms under the skin.

Wen often forms in people with diabetes. Predisposing factors include:

  • sedentary lifestyle;
  • a strong blow that provoked active growth of adipose tissue;
  • improper diet (active consumption of fatty foods);
  • age-related changes.

A fatty deposit forms in the part of the forehead where the sebaceous ducts are blocked. In addition, the neoplasm is formed due to a change in the consistency of sebum.

Symptoms

The wen on the forehead has a dense consistency. During palpation of the lipoma, the patient does not experience pain. There is no connection between the neoplasm and neighboring tissues, so when pressure is applied it moves to the side.

Mostly single lipomas appear on the forehead. If several wen are formed, over time they can form a large tumor.

Inflammation of the wen

Inflammation of the wen is a pathological condition manifested by painful sensations, an increase in size, and an increase in body temperature.

Neoplasms are characterized by slow growth. The following can accelerate their development:

  • injuries;
  • constant pressure or friction;
  • bruises.

Lipomas on the body do not pose a danger to the body. They create cosmetic discomfort. Due to the fact that the wen is located on the forehead, during hygiene procedures there is a possibility of damage to the skin on the surface of the neoplasm.

This can lead to infection of the lipoma. The inside of the tumor is filled with fatty tissue. Such conditions are favorable for the development of pathogenic microorganisms.

If a lipoma is infected with bacterial microflora, there is a danger of infection entering the brain. The presence of an inflammatory process in the wen can be determined by the pain that occurs when pressure is applied. Reddened skin and itching also indicate infection.

Active growth of a wen in rare cases indicates its degeneration into liposarcoma. When pressing on such a tumor, the patient experiences pain. Liposarcoma, unlike a wen, connects with neighboring tissues. Therefore, during palpation it remains motionless.

How much does it cost to remove a wen on the face?

It is quite logical that when it comes to the face, the cost of removing a lipoma will be slightly higher than performing surgery on the body. And this is quite logical. Any intervention performed on the face requires special precision of manipulation and extensive experience from the surgeon, because:

  • the question raised above about the invisibility of a postoperative scar and the preservation of the beauty of facial skin;
  • it is important to maintain sterility, infection can result in serious inflammation, and then it is not far from an abscess and infection higher up, in the meninges;
  • The wen must be completely removed - the entire capsule and all its contents, otherwise it will grow back.

It is these moments that in this case increase the cost of intervention. Even an experienced surgeon considers surgery on the face (no matter what is being removed: a wen, an atheroma, a boil) as an intervention of increased complexity. And, of course, it is better to trust the removal of facial tumors only to a highly qualified and constantly practicing specialist.

Diagnostics

To diagnose a wen on the forehead, an external examination is often sufficient. Additionally, radiography and ultrasound are prescribed. The last method is considered the most informative, since through it it is possible to find out the following circumstances:

  • the true size of the tumor;
  • the presence of fat cells inside the lipoma;
  • exclude signs of liposarcoma.

In addition to ultrasound, a fine-needle biopsy is prescribed, which makes it possible to accurately identify a malignant neoplasm.

Treatment

Treatment tactics for lipoma on the forehead are determined taking into account several factors:

Self-medication is dangerous with complications!

Attention

Despite the fact that our articles are based on trusted sources and have been tested by practicing doctors, the same symptoms can be signs of different diseases, and the disease may not proceed according to the textbook.

Pros of seeing a doctor:

  • Only a specialist will prescribe suitable medications.
  • Recovery will be easier and faster.
  • The doctor will monitor the course of the disease and help avoid complications.

find a doctor

Do not try to treat yourself - consult a specialist.

  • size ;
  • absence of malignant tumor;
  • preferences regarding the choice of treatment method.

It is not recommended to avoid treating a wen on the forehead. As the lipoma increases in size, the tumor compresses the blood vessels that lie in the immediate vicinity. As a result, local tissues receive insufficient oxygen and nutrients. This leads to the development of necrosis.

In addition, its close location to the brain creates certain prerequisites for the development of meningitis and other dangerous complications. They occur against the background of the spread of a bacterial infection introduced into the lipoma through an open wound.

If the tumor on the forehead is small, the doctor may limit treatment to drug therapy.

What to do if pus leaks from the wen

Lipoma is a benign defect formed by subcutaneous fat cells.

Treatment of a wen using ointments takes several weeks. This therapy is not always effective. If the growth of the tumor does not stop, it is necessary to choose another treatment method.

It is important to note that the use of traditional medicine in the fight against wen is extremely contraindicated. The use of various compresses can lead to the development of serious complications: violation of tissue integrity, abscess.

In a hospital setting, drug treatment for lipoma involves injecting a special substance (steroid) directly into the tumor. A thick needle is used to insert it. The substance promotes the resorption of tumors. The lipoma completely disappears in about two months after administration of the drug.

It is possible to remove a small lipoma from the forehead using cosmetic procedures:

  1. Chemical peeling. During the procedure, deep cleansing of the skin is carried out, thereby eliminating blockages of the sebaceous glands. Chemical peeling is recommended as a preventive measure for the formation of fatty deposits.
  2. exposure . Indicated for patients with sensitive skin.
  3. Mechanical cleaning.
  4. Electrocoagulation.

Wen on the body

Fat deposits (lipomas) are benign tumors that form from adipose tissue cells.

If the tumor is large or treatment by other methods does not bring positive results, surgical removal of the wen is prescribed.

There are several methods to combat this tumor.

Open surgery

The procedure involves making an incision on the surface of the wen and removing its contents. The operation is performed in a hospital setting under local or general anesthesia. If there is suppuration, the doctor performs antiseptic treatment of the cavity. After the procedure, a scar remains on the forehead.

Puncture-aspiration method

It involves inserting a needle connected to a pump into the tumor. The latter pumps out the contents of the lipoma. This method is not used to treat large neoplasms and tumors consisting of fibrous tissue. After such treatment, the capsule remains, which increases the risk of reappearance of the wen.

Radiofiber coagulation

Lipoma removal is carried out using a radio wave laser. The method is considered the most effective, as it does not lead to the development of complications.

Laser therapy

The method is considered minimally invasive. Exposing the tumor to a laser eliminates the possibility of blood poisoning. After the procedure, there is no scar left on the forehead.

Cryodestruction

The tumor is removed by treating it with liquid nitrogen. The main advantage of cryodestruction compared to surgery is that after the first procedure there are no scars left on the forehead.

After removing the wen from the forehead, the tissue is sent for histological examination. It is carried out to exclude a malignant tumor.

Removal progress

After the patient has completed the prescribed examination, the operation begins:

  1. When removing a lipoma with a laser, local painkillers are used, which are administered by injections around the formation.
  2. After numbness, the surgeon cuts the skin over the lipoma with a laser knife.
  3. At the same time, it cauterizes capillaries with blood vessels, which helps to avoid bleeding.
  4. After this, the edges of the flesh are pushed apart with a special device, the wen is pulled out with a clamp and peeled off with a laser.

After this, two scenarios are possible:

  • if the lipoma is small, the doctor simply applies a sterile bandage;
  • if it is 5-10 cm, you will have to make a seam.

In both cases, the recovery period will not take more than 5 days, and the scar will be small and neat, making it barely noticeable on the body. Usually, after surgery, patients immediately leave the clinic.
