How best to apply foundation on your face: diagram, tips, makeup rules

Foundation can be used as the only means for tinting the skin when applying daytime makeup. If this is evening makeup, or you have any skin defects, then this product alone will not do; you will have to use others that have a denser texture.

The foundation is applied to the entire surface of the face after the moisturizer. Application is carried out using a sponge, brush or special sponges. The choice of one tool or another depends on the consistency of the foundation. If it is very thick, it is best to apply it with a sponge. If the cream is more liquid and transparent, the tone is applied using a soft natural brush.

Concealer

Foundation for oily skin

A mattifying base is ideal. Can be used at any time of the year. However, it's worth taking a break. The consistency of the foundation is such that its particles penetrate deeply into the pores and are difficult to clean even with the most effective means. The color base should have a dense texture, since oily skin is often problematic. There is a need to mask acne and redness. It is not recommended to use a radiant foundation unless it has a mattifying effect. In combination with oily shine, the face will look very ineffective.

What should you apply before foundation?

First, you need to apply a moisturizer, then apply foundation in dots on the cheekbones, under the eyes, on the forehead, chin and cheeks. You should also apply a little product to your neck. Now, using a sponge or sponge, massage in the mattifying foundation along the massage lines.

Before applying foundation, it is imperative to moisturize the skin, because it can dry out during the day and needs nutrition. A moisturizer is used for this. There are also special foundations with moisturizing components. You can use them if your skin does not need special care, is not dry, but normal. If you have any skin defects, you need to disguise them before applying foundation.

Technique for applying foundation

Why is a foundation needed?

The base for foundation helps to idealize the skin and add sophistication to the makeup. A makeup base is essential for women who have uneven skin tone or texture. In particular, problematic epidermis with rashes, acne and pimples need the use of this specialized product, which creates a reliable base for further application of make-up.

Facial primer performs the following tasks:

  • Helps even out the texture of the skin and hide unevenness in its surface layer;
  • Evens out the tone and color of the epidermis, masking visible changes in tone and various pigmentations;
  • Hides pronounced imperfections of the skin, idealizing its appearance;
  • Conceals specific color and tone issues present on the skin;
  • Increases the durability of decorative cosmetics, keeping makeup fresh throughout the day;
  • Gives the skin a radiant shine due to the content of shimmering particles;
  • Improves skin condition, moisturizes it, tightens pores and mattifies;
  • Provides easy application of make-up.

Many cosmetic brands have makeup bases in their assortment. If you prefer to use one brand of foundation, then purchase a foundation from this collection. It is best suited under foundation.

What to apply first: foundation or concealer?

Concealer is the same corrector, its composition is the same as foundation. The difference is that a unit of this product contains more pigments than a foundation. That is, it can be used to disguise minor defects, as well as uneven skin tone. For example, concealer and corrector are often used to disguise dark circles under the eyes, rosacea, small branches, and inflammation on the face. Concealer or corrector is applied after moisturizing the skin, but before applying foundation. After masking the defects, a thin layer of foundation is applied and gently pressed into the skin.

The fact is that many girls note that after using foundation, the effect of a mask is obtained. The so-called plaster is very visible. It is necessary to be able to apply foundation correctly so that the complexion turns out natural, and its shape and ideal highlights are preserved. Several techniques are used for this.

Varieties of base

The product is available in several variations. When choosing, you should start from the problems and defects of your own skin.

  • Foundation. Differs from cream in light texture. It is not considered a full-fledged toning product, but it perfectly hides minor imperfections - uneven tone, age spots, freckles, acne marks. Makes it possible to avoid applying the cream in several layers. Leaves the face light, fresh, natural.
  • Leveling agent. Suitable for aging, aging skin. The main purpose is to smooth out small wrinkles and make deep ones less noticeable. In addition, it masks enlarged pores and acne marks. Adds youth and freshness to tired epidermis.
  • Silicone base. The latest invention in the world of cosmetology. Emergency help for dry epidermis with redness, peeling, irritation. Builds a protective barrier and prevents moisture loss.
  • Mattifying. For oily, combination type of epidermis. Absorbs fat, eliminates unpleasant shine, regulates the functioning of the sebaceous glands. Thanks to this, the durability of makeup increases. Even at the end of a hot working day, the makeup looks flawless.
  • Colored base. Contains special coloring particles. Available in different colors - blue, green, purple, brown, etc., it allows you to effectively disguise individual skin imperfections. For example, acne is perfectly masked by a green base, pigment spots by a purple base, circles under the eyes will be hidden by a pink base.
  • Moisturizing. Designed for dry skin. Eliminates all imperfections of peeling, redness, dryness. Gives softness, freshness, visually rejuvenates. Radiant. Contains small reflective particles. Used for evening makeup instead of foundation and powder. Creates a healthy glow effect. Makeup looks stylish, glamorous, mysterious.
  • Transparent base. Thanks to its light texture, it is not felt on the face. Used to give the face freshness. Allows foundation to apply perfectly. Recommended for girls whose skin is as close to ideal as possible. If there is nothing special to mask.

Features of the color base:

  • Green. Masks red color - broken capillaries, inflamed acne, blemishes, insect bites, allergic rashes.
  • Pink. Essential for pale skin. Adds freshness and health.
  • Purple. Eliminates yellowness. Conceals age spots and freckles. Recommended for women who smoke.
  • Yellow. Masks all blue defects. Circles under the eyes, bruises, scratches.
  • White. Refreshes the face, adds health and youth.

Any foundation masks fine wrinkles and visually tightens the contour of the face. With a professional foundation you can disguise any defects. It can be liquid, cream, gel, dry.

How much foundation should I apply to my face?

The amount of foundation depends on the method of application and its texture. It all depends on what kind of makeup you are doing: daytime or evening. If this is an evening option, you can use a thick product.

Options and amount of product:

  • It is advisable to use a sponge for application, because it can be used to apply a fairly thick layer. Next, if you want to save product, you need to moisten the sponge with water. Squeeze it out and only then work on driving the foundation into the pores.
  • If you want to save money because foundation is very expensive, start applying it with your fingers. This method is quite lengthy and at first it is very difficult to apply foundation evenly and in a perfectly thin layer using your fingers. There is no need to smudge anything. Apply the product using a tapping motion.
  • The most expensive way is to use brushes to apply foundation. In this case, it is better for you to take two types of brushes: round and flat. Use flat in the area under the eyes and to draw the back of the nose. Rounded brushes are used to apply foundation to the neck, cheekbones and cheeks.

How to correctly and perfectly evenly apply the foundation of a mask with a brush and what brush?

Brushes are best suited for applying both light and dense foundations. It is best to choose an artificial brush; products made from badger hair can serve as an alternative. Using a brush you can create the effect of porcelain skin or a mask.

Instructions:

  • In order to apply foundation with a brush, you need to draw several lines in the forehead, cheekbones, chin and bridge of the nose. In order for the cream to apply well, you need to apply a small amount of the product to the back of your palm.
  • This way the product will soften a little, its thickness will decrease, and it will be much more pliable to apply to the skin. In this case, the product must not be smeared or smoothed, but applied with driving movements.
  • If you have a flat brush, apply the product using tapping movements, distributing it evenly over large areas. Such as the forehead and cheeks. You can use a round brush. In this case, the product is distributed in a circular motion.
  • Vary the size of the brush on different parts of the face. If this is the back of the nose and its wings, the ideal option would be a thin, dense brush, as for applying eye shadow. If it's the cheeks and chin, as well as the forehead, a denser, thicker brush will do. This way you can save time and money.

A few important rules before applying foundation to your face

  1. When applying foundation with a brush, apply it from top to bottom. In this case, the fluff on the cheeks will be invisible.
  2. Foundation should be selected according to the season. In winter, it is better to use creamier products that will protect against temperature changes. On hot days, it is better to choose a light cream or powder.
  3. To give your skin a beautiful glow, you can add highlighter directly to the cream or apply it beforehand under your foundation.
  4. The foundation should be applied with a special brush with high density and thickness. It is also recommended to choose artificial pile. This way you can distribute the cream more evenly.
  5. Don't neglect your moisturizer, no matter how late you are for a meeting. If you don’t additionally nourish the skin, it will quickly begin to peel off, and foundation will only emphasize this more.
  6. Remember that foundation does not replace concealer. If you do not have any special skin problems, apply the product in a thin layer, and in areas of redness you can use a corrector.

The most favorite and, in my opinion, important point is the matching of the color of the face and neck. Often girls choose a foundation based on the principle: “Beautiful foundation color” or “Under a tan! I don’t want to be pale.” As a result, we get the “lollipop” effect - the face is one color, and the neck is another. It is important that everything is harmonious and whole. Believe me, a face that is two shades darker than the neck does not look rested and fresh. A fresher-looking face is half a tone lighter or tone on tone. And the desired tanning effect is easily achieved with the help of bronzers, blushes and highlighters.

How to correctly and perfectly evenly apply foundation without a mask effect with a sponge?

A sponge is a small cosmetic sponge that can be made from both natural and synthetic materials. It greatly facilitates the application of both crumbly and creamy cosmetics. A sponge is very often used to apply foundation.

Instructions:

  • You need to wet the sponge in water and squeeze it out. After this, the tone is applied pointwise to the face.
  • This is done in the area of the forehead, chin, and nose using driving movements, from the center to the temples and ears.
  • After distributing the product, the sponge is washed and dried.
  • Never leave the sponge wet or dirty. Because bacteria can grow in it.

Sponge application

How to apply foundation correctly and perfectly evenly without the effect of a mask with your hands and fingers?

Many beauty bloggers, as well as makeup artists, recommend that people use their fingers to apply daily makeup. Indeed, this cosmetic product, that is, foundation, can be applied with your fingers. This helps to save substance and also to make everyday, light makeup.

Fingers are suitable if you want to achieve a translucent tone, or hide minor defects, even out your complexion. In this case, you can completely do it with your fingers without using brushes and sponges. Please note that if there are defects on the skin, dark circles under the eyes, then it is best to hide them with concealer and corrector. The technique of applying the cream with your fingers is simple.

Instructions:

  • It is necessary to apply several dots of foundation in the area of the cheekbones, under the eyes, in the forehead, and chin. They should resemble beads in size. Next, along the line from the nose to the ears, evenly tap the product in with your fingers. You will do quite poorly at the beginning, because you have no experience.
  • Under no circumstances should you spread the product like a regular cream. Only with driving movements will you achieve uniform application. If the skin is very flaky, usually in the area of the nose and chin, you do not need to rub the product in, but to hammer it in.
  • That is, spread a little product on your finger and, using tapping movements, correct the nose area and all flaky areas.

How to apply foundation if your skin is peeling?

The fact is that if you immediately apply foundation to flaky skin, you will only highlight all the places where there are uneven areas. Therefore, it is necessary to act in a certain way. Start by using a moisturizer.

Instructions:

  • It is best to exfoliate your skin two to three times a week to remove any flaky particles.
  • Before applying makeup, you need to lubricate your face with a moisturizer.
  • Wait until it is completely absorbed, blot with a napkin if there are any remaining product on your face.
  • Next, you need to apply the foundation using tapping movements. You cannot rub or rub anything into this place.
  • No circular movements, only pressing, driving movements. Only in this way will you be able to hide the peeling and not make it even more noticeable.

Is it possible and how to apply foundation around the eyes and on the eyelids?

The foundation is applied around the eyes and on the eyelids too. But the fact is that very often after applying it, dark circles remain in the eye area and wreaths are visible. In this case, you will need to use a corrector or concealer. In the blue area, a yellow corrector will suit you. If there are green marks under the eyes, choose orange.

Don't worry about the skin around your eyes turning orange. In fact, with proper shading, you will be able to remove these skin imperfections. Foundation in these areas is applied using a thin brush or the corner of a sponge, which is made in the shape of an egg. Using the tip of a sponge, foundation is driven into the area around the eyes and upper eyelid.

The skin around the eyes is very delicate and sensitive, so it requires some attention. The fact is that in this area it is imperative to apply a primer. This is a special base that fills wrinkles and evens them out. In addition, it nourishes thin skin. Only after the primer has dried can you wear foundation. Nowadays there is a lot of controversy regarding whether concealer is applied before foundation or after it.

Fashionable make-up artists note that it all depends on what effect you want to achieve. If you have serious problems with the skin around your eyes, then it is better for you to apply a primer. After this, evenly distribute the foundation, and then the concealer. If there are no particular problems, then you can simply work on the area around the eyes with concealer. There is no need to apply powder to the area around the eyes, as this dries out the delicate epidermis.

Apply foundation

Makeup base, rules for applying makeup base and foundation.

Hello to all my readers. a makeup base should be , as well as how and in what order to apply all these products.

Base makeup

For professional make-up, make-up bases (primers) are first applied. There are mattifying and moisturizing bases, colored bases, silicone, reflective, as you can see there are a lot of them and each has its own effect. I'll start by telling you the order of application to the skin.

  • Based on the first two, I think it’s clear that mattifying does not allow oily shine on the skin, it can narrow pores, we apply it only to those parts of the face that get oily the most, our t-zone.
  • The moisturizing base has the opposite property; we apply it to dry areas of the skin, most often the nose and cheeks, or the entire face.
  • Silicone primer evens out the skin, filling in small unevenness and wrinkles, as if smoothing out the surface for further makeup. It is better to apply it locally.
  • Colored bases even out the tone of the face, for example, green removes redness from the cheeks and violet yellowness, pink grayness, creating a healthy skin color.
  • Radiant primers, or so-called bases with reflective particles, give the face freshness and distract a little from problem skin and fine wrinkles.

You can choose the database you need, or not use it at all because there is no need to hide anything. Tip - apply each base of the queue, letting it absorb and dry. For the makeup of an ordinary girl, I believe that these bases are not always needed, especially for every day.

(If you are very interested in the topic about databases, I will cover it separately at your request.)

Foundation.

In order to finally even out the skin tone on the face, we apply foundation. But girls, I ask you, do not make your face look tanned or pale separately from the color of your skin, neck or décolleté. The tone of the cream must exactly match the color of the skin (!). To do this, you need to have two foundations, one for summer and one for winter, and during transition periods simply mix them together in the required proportion. And so, how to choose the right foundation color that suits your skin:

When choosing it in a store, it is enough not to apply it to your hand. The color of the skin on the hand is significantly different from the color of the skin on the face and décolleté. When choosing a foundation, it is better to apply it to the area below the cheek, to the skin of the lower jaw.

We apply several strips of foundations of different colors that you think suit you next to each other, and visually determine the most suitable color in comparison. The color that suits you will almost merge with the color of your skin.

The density of foundation and its effect.

For very oily skin it is better to choose a mattifying foundation, for dry skin a moisturizing one. There are also foundations with a slight shine and have the same properties as the base.

In terms of density, there are very light tinting products such as BB and CC creams, after them come light fluid creams, then the covering ability and density of the cream increases. For the summer, I would advise you to completely move away from foundation and use powder. But understanding that evening makeup and holidays have not been canceled, you should understand that light products for the summer are ideal, but for denser coverage it is better to choose a foundation with greater coverage.

How and with what to apply foundation.

There are several simple ways to apply foundation:

  • Fingers
  • Brush
  • Sponge

Personally, I don’t like sponges, they absorb too much product, I prefer a brush or my fingers. You can apply a thicker coating with a brush, and less noticeable coverage with your fingers. Sponges are different and provide coverage of different thicknesses.

And so, how should the tone be applied? First, we apply a small part of the cream to the hand so that it warms up a little from body temperature. Afterwards, we put it on the brush or fingers, and along the massage lines we begin to distribute it on the face, starting from the forehead, nose, and so on, distributing the rest of the foundation over the entire face. There is no need to carelessly smear it on the skin (!), thus allowing uneven coverage or stains. An even tone requires careful study! If you choose a brush , then it should be flat or double (duofiber - synthetic and natural bristles). You can also use duofibre to polish the already applied foundation on your face in a circular motion. When applying tone with our fingers, we use more tapping movements on the skin.

Do not apply foundation under the eyes or on the eyelids. There is a shadow base for the eyelids, and concealers (correctors) for the area under the eyes. Eyelid base and correctors are applied after foundation. If you have pimples on your face that foundation couldn't cover, you shouldn't apply a huge amount of cream trying to tint them. This is why there is a corrector, the green color of the corrector will mask the red pimples, on top of it we apply a corrector in the tone of the foundation, as if blocking the green color.

We work on those areas that are too dark or have strong redness, such as the edges of the nose, the corners of the lips, and the area under the eyes, which requires special treatment. For very dark bruises under the eyes, you should not use a concealer that is too light, as this will only highlight them. Choose a color that is half a shade darker or lighter than your skin tone. For bruises with a blue or purple tint, it is better to first cover them with a light layer of colored corrector, orange or yellow (respectively), and on top of this a corrector that matches the foundation or half a shade darker.

To complete the makeup, set the applied foundation with a light layer of powder. Bases and primers are the basis for makeup .

I look forward to your comments and questions, I will be happy to answer. =)

Do I need to apply foundation in summer?

In the summer, you also want to be beautiful, and therefore girls try to hide all the flaws in their appearance with the help of foundation. In this case, you need to do it correctly. When exposed to high temperatures, foundation may run. Therefore, during the daytime, if you are going to the beach or walking in hot weather, it is better to refrain from applying foundation.

If you are going to the office or for an evening walk, when the heat subsides a little, you can use the product. If you go outside during the scorching sun and cannot refrain from using foundation, choose a product with a light texture, as well as mandatory protection from ultraviolet rays.

Can I wear sunscreen under foundation?

Many women who are very concerned about their appearance wonder whether they should apply sunscreen under foundation. In general, it’s possible if their bases fit together. But it often happens that after applying foundation, the entire mask begins to float and roll off the face in pieces.

This occurs due to a mismatch between solvents and oils that are used in the manufacture of products. Therefore, the ideal option would be to use special foundation creams with ultraviolet protection. The packaging usually states that the cream contains particles that protect against sun rays. Choose products with at least 30 protection if you plan to go outside in the scorching sun.

Is it possible to apply foundation after sculpting?

Makeup artists have different opinions about whether foundation can be used after structuring and sculpting the face. In general, many people recommend immediately applying foundation to your face. After this, use concealers and highlighters to sculpt your face. And after that, apply another layer of foundation.

It all depends on your preferences and skin defects. The more defects, the more products will have to be applied to correct them. The video below describes in detail how face sculpting is carried out, as well as applying foundation.

The most important stage: cleansing, moisturizing

What are these negative reviews about foundations that are most often found on the Internet? I'm sure you've read them more than once too. This is a criticism like: “Emphasizes dry skin, flaking, does not hide redness. The conclusion is a very bad tone.” Such statements just make me sick. And if such comments are still found on the Internet, it means that not enough explanatory work has been done about what should be done before applying foundation .

Just keep in mind: any foundation hides no more than 30% of skin imperfections. There are denser, heavier products - they can “photoshop” up to 70% of imperfections, but they are not recommended for every day. Therefore, our direct task is to remove as many imperfections as possible before applying foundation. And for this, the skin should:

  • Clear.
  • Moisturize.
  • Conceal with additional means, if necessary.

Exactly in this sequence. The main thing is to get rid of any redness, peeling, dryness, etc. as much as possible before applying foundation. Think of your face as a canvas. What artist would paint on an uneven canvas?

What means to use is up to you. What suits you, what you are used to. Just keep in mind a few tips:

1. If you use micellar water for cleansing, do not forget to rinse it off. The micellar should always be washed off - this colorless water creates a disgusting sticky feeling on the skin. And this is a solvent. It dissolves not only dirt on the skin, but also all the products that you will apply next.

2. Tonic must be alcohol-free.

3. Allow at least 10 minutes to absorb any moisturizer before applying the next layer. We used cream, serum, oil - wait 10 minutes. If you see that the product is not completely absorbed, blot it.

Facial oil before applying foundation

Can oil be used when applying foundation? How? For what? Which? In what order? What is the final effect? There are many legends and conflicting opinions surrounding this issue, let’s figure it out. I will highlight this aspect separately, because on the one hand, oil is one of the stages of preparing the skin for makeup, and on the other hand, it is a means for applying makeup. Let's consider all methods of application.

Mix oil with foundation

  • Option 1: drop a little foundation onto your hand, add a couple of drops of facial oil, mix and apply the mixture to the skin as usual.
  • Option 2: Apply foundation or corrector to the face with strokes, drop a couple of drops of oil onto a damp cosmetic sponge, and blend.

What is the benefit of adding oil to tone?

  • If you want to lighten, dilute the matte finish of the foundation, make the coating lighter, more radiant, more natural.
  • If you want easier application, distribution, shading of the foundation.

My opinion on this matter. I haven’t tried it, and I’m not going to try it. It is better to choose a foundation that is comfortable, suitable in color and consistency, than to dance with tambourines around an unsuitable one.

Apply oil before makeup

Together with the rest of your skincare cosmetics: cream, mask, serum, toner, you don’t have to apply everything on yourself at once. The main thing is to achieve the main goal: remove peeling, redness, nourish the skin, moisturize. If one product is enough for this, great, if more is needed, ok.

My opinion on this matter. Oil as a preliminary part of care is the most reasonable option, if you take into account two important conditions:

  • The oil is chosen that is suitable specifically for your skin type, and this is not an easy task. Wide variety, hundreds of varieties of pure mono-oils, regardless of manufacturer. But there are also ready-made mixtures from different brands. With such a choice, it’s easy to get confused. If you have found “your” oil, I can only congratulate you. Personally, I haven't found it yet. How to determine that a particular oil is right for you? The criterion is extremely simple: it is comfortable to live with, you rub a couple of drops into the skin and they are absorbed without a trace, leaving behind only a feeling of softness and moisture. If this consistency creates a film on the face, an oily sheen, a feeling of stickiness and disgust, then there is no need to use such a product anymore. Guided by this rule, you should choose all other skincare products. And it would be a mistake to think that face oil is only for very dry skin to remove dryness and flaking. A suitable bottle can be selected for absolutely any skin type and for any defect.
  • Even with the perfect oil, it takes time to absorb; allow at least 10 minutes for this process and only then apply the next product.

Use oil instead of highlighter

Kind of a life hack. The finishing touches to the finished makeup. If you want to replace your usual highlighter, rub one drop of (appropriate!) oil between your fingers and apply it to the desired areas on top of the foundation.

My opinion on this matter. Personally, the shine of the foundation is enough for me, I don’t need more.
