Papillomas are small growths of the skin and mucous membranes that arise as a result of human papillomavirus infection. The causative agent is the human papillomavirus (HPV). It enters the body through microdamage to tissue, as a result of sexual contact and close contact with infected people in everyday life. The target organs of the papillomavirus are primarily the skin and mucous membranes, the genitourinary organs and the respiratory tract.
How can you get infected?
The most obvious route of transmission of papillomavirus is through household contact. That is, infection most often occurs within a family or couples living together. But he wanders not only between relatives and roommates. You can also acquire a harmful microorganism as a result of visiting public places such as:
- baths, saunas;
- locker rooms and showers at sports centers;
- hydromassage salon.
Genital warts deserve special mention. During childbirth, there is always the possibility of transmission of the virus to the child from the mother during childbirth, which manifests itself in the form of characteristic growths in the baby’s mouth or larynx.
Important! HPV, which causes condylomas, is easily transmitted through sexual contact, including the variety that causes genital cancer.
Laser coagulation
The modern non-contact method of removing tumors using a laser has become widespread not so long ago. Experts say that it is absolutely painless and low-traumatic, because... infected tissues evaporate without harming healthy ones. The procedure takes a few minutes, and the rehabilitation period lasts 2 weeks, during which you should refrain from swimming in the pool and open water, and avoid temperature changes and the sun.
The method can cause side effects such as prolonged skin redness and swelling; in case of thyroid problems, keloid scars can form. There are many contraindications for this type of treatment:
- diabetes;
- acute inflammatory processes;
- epilepsy;
- disorders of the endocrine and immune systems;
- photoderomatosis;
- thrombocytopenia and others.
According to patients, the procedure is very unpleasant and painful, and during the process “you can smell the smell of burnt meat.” In addition, healing takes a long time and relapses are possible.
What is the danger of papillomas?
Human papillomavirus can remain dormant in the body for a long time. In this case, no signs are noted at all. In this case, HPV is completely harmless to a person until a certain point, which triggers its development.
Human papillomavirus has the following consequences:
- Brings inconvenience. The shoots cling to clothing and certain objects, rub and interfere with certain actions. They spoil the appearance of the skin (of particular concern to women).
- Increased risk of injury to growths. Subsequently, they hurt and become inflamed, and also become a source of spread of infection and the introduction of new ones.
- It is considered the cause of the development of diseases of internal organs when localized on them. For example, papillomas of the bladder can lead to inflammation, as well as gynecological diseases.
- It is the main culprit of cancerous tumors. Characteristic of the corresponding HPV types listed above. In some cases, there is a transition from a harmless type of infection to a dangerous one.
You won’t be able to determine whether the papilloma virus is dangerous on your body on your own. A visit to a dermatologist is necessary, who will prescribe the most appropriate examination. It will help determine the nature of the papillomas that have appeared, the specific type of HPV that is responsible, as well as the stage of development of the disease.
Electrocoagulation
With any method of removing papillomas, there is a certain rehabilitation period.
It is used to remove small papillomas. Since the essence of the method is the thermal destruction of the affected tissue, the method is popularly called “cauterization.” A heated electrode is used to touch the neoplasm and coagulate it along with the vessels, resulting in a pinpoint burn that becomes covered with a dark crust within an hour. In the case of single papillomas, local anesthesia is used, but in the case of multiple small tumors this is inappropriate.
The rehabilitation period lasts about a week, during which the redness and swelling disappear and the dark crusts disappear. At this time, it is recommended to protect yourself from the sun and treat your skin with an antiseptic.
The use of this method is possible for any location of tumors, and patient reviews indicate its reliability. While the price for removing one papilloma is very reasonable, removing multiple tumors will cost a pretty penny.
Diagnostics
To make sure that a wart is harmless and to identify its nature in order to select the best treatment, you need to undergo diagnostics:
- First of all, visit a dermatologist (dermatovenerologist or gynecologist, if the problem is localized accordingly).
- After a standard examination, they may be referred to an oncological surgeon to assess the risk of developing cancer.
- To do this, a fragment of the altered tissue is taken for biopsy.
- In any case, a test for the type of HPV will be performed.
Important
Seborrheic warts are benign skin lesions. This means that they cannot turn into cancer cells and be dangerous to health. Seborrheic warts are only an aesthetic problem. Especially when they are on the skin of the face.
The exception is when such a neoplasm is located in a place of constant friction or other traumatic factor. In this case, skin infection may occur. This can result in serious inflammation and even blood poisoning.
What types are there?
More than 100 species of this virus have been discovered. The most dangerous papillomas are HPV types 16, 18, 35, 51, 59, 66, 68; they provoke the formation of malignant cells. HPV 16 and 18 can most often lead to cancer. Doctors advise removing such tumors and undergoing a special course of treatment.
Some types of papillomas are more common than others and have already been studied quite well, since doctors constantly have to deal with them:
- simple (vulgar) papillomas are hard, keratinized growths that are usually found on the fingers and hands, and in children also on the knees. Sometimes they disappear on their own over time;
- Plantar warts are often confused with regular calluses. They also cause discomfort when walking, but unlike papillomas, a skin pattern can be distinguished on the surface of the callus, and the wart also has a noticeable protruding rim;
- flat papillomas are not necessarily round in shape, often even irregular. They cause inflammation and redness of the surrounding skin and are very itchy.
- filamentous papillomas grow in length. They can appear as a growth in the form of a single thread or a whole bunch; they often appear on the body of people of middle age and older. Usually formed on the face, neck, under the arms;
- genital warts are often found in intimate areas: the external genitalia, around the urethra and anus, and in women - in the vagina and cervix.
Doctors already know what the most dangerous type of human papillomavirus is. These are types 16 or 18, because they are the common cause of the development of malignant tumors from papilloma. Regardless of the type of papillomas, modern medicine recommends removing them.
Causes
As mentioned above, papillomas appear as a result of human infection with HPV. Moreover, the virus can remain latent in the body for a long time and not cause any clinical manifestations. Currently, more than 30% of the world's population is infected with HPV.
Papillomas appear when the body is exposed to provoking factors, such as:
- Decreased immunity. When the intensity of the body’s defense weakens, HPV becomes active and leads to the formation of growths.
- Unprotected sexual contact (oral, vaginal, anal) with a partner who is a carrier of the virus.
- Bad habits. Smoking and excessive alcohol consumption not only harm health in general, but also provoke HPV activity if it is present in the body.
- STDs: chlamydia, thrush, gonorrhea also contribute to the formation of papillomas on the skin and mucous membranes of the genital organs.
- Long-term use of antibacterial drugs and oral contraceptives.
- Constant stressful situations, depression and emotional stress.
Modern methods of getting rid of papillomas
Today's medicine offers a number of accessible methods to rid yourself of the external consequences of infection. However, these procedures only combat the external symptom, ignoring the root of the disease. Because of this, it is recommended to use antiviral drugs in the postoperative period.
Medicines cannot be called a complete solution: no remedy has yet been developed that can completely destroy the papilloma virus that has settled in the body. Therefore, patients should find time and energy to strengthen their immunity through sports and a healthy diet.

Radiosurgery
The radio wave method is popular compared to alternative techniques because it offers quick and non-traumatic removal. Due to the fact that the radio knife allows a competent specialist to act with maximum delicacy, the procedure eliminates damage to healthy skin, and the affected area itself, from which the papilloma grew, is completely restored after the procedure. In this case, the growth does not reappear in the same place.
Laser coagulation
The operation is carried out using a special laser, which is capable of “uprooting” even deep-rooted warts. The effect of the beam is such that, penetrating through the thickness of the formation, it simultaneously seals the adjacent vessels and prevents bleeding.
The procedure requires no more than half an hour, and after a month the wound is completely healed without scars or other marks. Those with vulgar and plantar warts, as well as condylomas, should prefer a laser.
Electrocoagulation
The electrocoagulator causes the destruction of proteins in pathological tissues. The papilloma dies, and in its place a dry crust appears, and soon it disappears. The advantage of such a mini-operation using high-frequency current is the ability to send parts of the tumor for histological analysis. This is not possible when removing with liquid nitrogen and laser. Before starting the electrocoagulation procedure, local anesthesia is performed - the affected area is treated with a local anesthetic. The device for treating papillomas on the body has a loop-shaped electrode.
Cryotherapy
If the previous options involve thermal exposure, then this method is based on the use of liquid nitrogen and, accordingly, freezing the warts. This operation does not require anesthesia and is distinguished by its simplicity and, most importantly, painlessness. The instrument here involves an applicator impregnated with nitrogen, upon contact with which tumor cells die and the unwanted growth dies. This solution is ideal for eliminating poorly developed papillomas of any type in small quantities.
Important! Although these methods do not require special preparatory measures, it would be useful to make sure that there are no coincidences with contraindications.
Radio wave coagulation
Removal of tumors with a radioknife occurs under the influence of directed high-frequency radiation, during which the affected tissue evaporates. The radiotherapy device has several electrodes of various shapes and purposes, which the doctor selects depending on the form of the tumor. The most widely used device in our country is the Surgitron device.
The procedure is performed under local anesthesia in the form of an injection. With this method, papillomas are removed quickly, without damaging healthy tissue, leaving almost no traces. There is no rehabilitation period here, but there are many contraindications to the use of this method. Radioknife is contraindicated for:
- exacerbation of chronic diseases;
- acute inflammatory processes;
- diabetes mellitus;
- pregnancy and lactation;
- presence of a pacemaker;
- oncological diseases of any location.
Radio wave treatment should not be used if there is a possibility of malignancy of papillomas. But in the absence of such, the method is successfully used on any part of the body. According to patients, the most unpleasant thing about this procedure is the anesthetic injection.
Remedies for getting rid of papillomas
The best effect is achieved by methods of wart removal combined with subsequent drug therapy. If you remove the growth without taking immunomodulatory and restorative medications, you can simply get rid of the unpleasant superficial manifestations of HPV activity, but not the cause of the disease. The virus functions inside the body, and only a strong immune system can suppress its effects. The best treatment is complex therapy. It is most effective in the fight against warts, papillomas and other tumors.
If warts appear, you need to consult a dermatologist to conduct a diagnosis, determine the cause of the disease and the nature of the tumors, and prescribe the correct treatment. You cannot remove warts yourself, so as not to cause possible serious consequences of the disease, one of which is skin cancer.
According to doctors, self-medication often aggravates the disease rather than leading to improvement. In order not to cause harm to health, in a clinic, a blood test and tissue samples of warts are taken from the patient for biopsy and cytological examination. After this, they begin one or another removal method.
Destruction of the body of warts is carried out with medications, special instruments (laser knife, radio wave method, electrocoagulation) and with the help of traditional medicine.
You can get a more detailed idea of these tools by studying the table:

Folk recipes
Despite the fact that traditional medicine methods are not officially recognized, they have been confirming their effectiveness for decades. There are many recipes for treating warts using medicinal plants and natural remedies. But the most effective ways among them are:
- garlic rubs and compresses;
- treatment with fresh celandine juice;
- raw potato compress;
- compress with vinegar;
- cauterization with iodine.
Traditional methods of removing papillomas require a lot of time. Treatment of new small warts usually takes 1-1.5 months.
Removing warts using pharmaceutical drugs and folk remedies does not guarantee their removal forever. To prevent the appearance of papillomas, it is important to strengthen the immune system.
Boosting immunity
The occurrence of the virus is caused by a weakened immune system, so if you want to get rid of this disease forever, improve your overall health. Removing papillomas with folk remedies in young children is the best treatment method, because children often do not want to undergo other procedures, especially with regard to drug treatment.
To ensure that the tumors go away quickly and do not come back, you can drink a glass of potato juice every day (preferably from a red potato variety), or an infusion of echinacea, rose hips, or a collection of beneficial herbs such as lemon balm, nettle, dandelion or plantain. It’s also a good idea to mix St. John’s wort, wormwood, plantain and dill seeds.
The onset of papillomas occurs due to frequent stress, alcohol and smoking abuse, prolonged contact with infected people, or wearing someone else's clothes.
The best treatment is prevention
A conscientious attitude towards your health requires much less effort than the measures that have to be taken to get rid of an existing disease. Therefore, listen to the following advice:
- Get involved in improving your health. Exercising, hardening and adjusting your diet will be enough to provide your body with solid protection not only from HPV, but also from other infections.
- When going to saunas and swimming pools, use slippers and dry towels, keeping them clean.
- The banal use of condoms will not eliminate, but will significantly reduce the likelihood of transmission of condylomas.
- Unpleasant consequences of sexual intercourse can be prevented with the help of a vaccine aimed at counteracting viruses of types 16, 18, 6 and 11 of papillomavirus. By getting this vaccination before you begin to be sexually active, you will provide yourself with excellent insurance against cancer strains of the microorganism.
Removing the papilloma itself is the easiest step in the fight against papillomavirus. It must be followed by a complex set of treatment, which implies not only the use of medications, but also measures to restore and stabilize the immune system. In this case, the result largely depends on the consciousness and patience of the patient. For acne on the butt, read on our website.
